Replacement for Vanek's production? If Vanek really had produced it would have been the Habs who shook the Kings' hands at Staples Center (although the Kings would still have been skating around with the Cup).

BOSTON -- His playing days with the Boston Bruins are now a memory, but Shawn Thornton has earned the right to be mentioned in the same breath as Bobby Orr, Terry O'Reilly, Ray Bourque and Cam Neely.

I think Hab fans can legitimately be vindicated a bit with the success...it has to be balanced out with the thought that any team no matter how good can slip from one year to next...Chicago and LA both slipped after their cup wins yet are still formidable teams, so nothing can be taken for granted.

So Elliotte Friedman and Scott Oake jump ship. Kind of predictable:

Quote:
TORONTO (June 17, 2014) Rogers today announced the two newest members of its NHL broadcast team, who will be part of delivering NHL national coverage across all Rogers properties, as well as Hockey Night in Canada, starting this fall. Elliotte Friedman and Scott Oake will be joining the NHL broadcast team at Rogers, as announced today on Prime Time Sports on Sportsnet 590 The FAN and Sportsnet 360.

Friedman, continuing in his role as an insider and reporter, makes his Sportsnet TV debut on July 1 during Signing Season, a special seven-hour NHL Free Agency special starting at 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT on Sportsnet 360.

So Spezza 10 teams no trade clause = Canada, Isles, Preds and Panthers...

Hope he's traded to the Sabres.

The Jackets are trying to move Umberger :

http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/...r-updated.html

He also hold a 10 teams no trade clause.

Like Havlat in SJ, they could buy him out if they fail to move him. Unlike Havlat, he wont be UFA next summer. He's 32 with 3 more years @ 4.6M cap hit.

Canada makes sense. If he can't handle the media in the weakest/least passionate city in Canada he won't be able to handle elsewhere.

Why would Spezza even put Montreal or Toronto on the list....no way Murray trades him there. If I was Spezza I would of added Buf

Recipe for success in the AHL....obviously an overall good team. But you need your vets. Morin, Hedden and Meech to name only those 3 guys. 30 year old that are succesful will bring your team as far as they can. We might have some younger depth to build a very good AHL Team.....but you need your vets. Succesful ones.

Always been a fan of RJ. I think he brings exactly what Bergevin covets: strength/size, two-way play, leadership. I think he'd fit in well in Montreal.

No certainly not the same player, but still someone that can cycle, backcheck and pot ~20 goals.

Can't see it happening at 4.6 mil for 3 years. maybe if he is bought out or if CBJ retains 1-1.5 mil. At 3 years 10 mil, possibly...

He's declined the last 3 years...199 GP 46-46-92. Would be a good fit with Eller on the 3rd line, replacing Gionta.

Seeing Canadian born players not wanting to play in Canada is pretty pathetic.
