He's suffering from PCS and is now out indefinitely.

Firstly I hope he gets better, never nice to see a great goalie get injured.

With that out of the way, I hope they tank enough to get us the #10 overall pick

Interesting....and here I thought the Oilers were the only team incompetent enough to have something like this happen.

Maybe the severity of concussions are much harder to gauge than some people think.

They took a gamble and apparently it did not pay off. The Islanders knew they needed this guy back if they had any shot of making the post-season. Welcome to Long Island Mr. Doughty...and probably Mr. Tavares as well.

I hope he gets well. But this got me thinking. Can you imagine if he had to retire? Would he still be a cap hit for the next 20 years or whatever length his contract is?

edit:
14 more years on the contract.

Interesting...it seems he was never diagnosed with PCS.

He is day to day and should start Friday if his headache is gone.

No, he's not over 35. He'd go off the books and get paid by insurance.

Apparently he wouldn't go on insurance. According to one of the mods on the Islanders board, the contract was uninsurable due to the length. But you're right, it wouldn't count against the cap.

This story reminds me of a simular thing happening to a team this season.....they had this great young player who also got a concussion, and the team wrote it off like it was nothing, and his first game back he got HAMMERED in the 3rd period, but played the next night......

I've been saying that for a long time and in every thread where the Oilers are treated as the ONLY team that ever has a player come back too soon.

It happens in all of professional sports.
