Came out to skate today in the optional practice this morning. Stayed on the ice for about 15 minutes before leaving. Tested out his injury at the beginning of drills skating semi-hard laps around the far end of the rink. Participated in the first two drills and was done.
I would definitely say he is out for Columbus and doubtful for the Detroit series next week at this point.
This is beginning to sound suspiciously like the sports hernia injury that had him out last year at nearly the exact same time. He came back in the playoffs and was visibly running at about half-effectiveness, which was devastating to us. This has me a little worried, to be honest.
Just an observation: sports hernias and groin issues seem to affect players in the same way as concussion prone players -- meaning, once you have one, the next one is easier to get, etc and they get more and more severe.
I just wish good ole Sully could get a "groin transplant"!
I can't relate to a groin injury, but its got to be frustrating for him...

That is exactly what I have been thinking all along....ever since I saw him skating off for the last time in a crouched over position.
He had it "fixed" last summer, but it certainly could have retorn.
I have heard nothing to substantiate my worry.....that being said..... certainly he would be less than effective during a physical playoff run if this were indeed the case....and he would miss everything if he was to have surgery again now.
Last week, I heard he'll make a comeback this wednesday ! But now it looks like he won't be back this week !
What are the latest news on him ?
from last friday's rag:
Forward Steve Sullivan (back) and center Scott Nichol (thumb) were also on the ice Thursday, although they focused on conditioning drills.
Trotz said there's a chance Sullivan could be ready for the three-game Canadian road trip which begins Wednesday at Vancouver.
"No one wants to get back more than I do," Sullivan said, "but I don't want to risk coming back early to play in a regular season game only to be out the rest of the year."
what's the latest on Sullivan? Any chance he suits up against the Oilers?
I would say 99.9% NO after reading todays paper where Trotz says they are being very cautious about Sully.
Quote:
Injuries: Scott Hartnell, Scott Nichol and Steve Sullivan all skated Monday morning as they moved closer to returning to the lineup.
Trotz indicated that Nichol (thumb) is the closest to being back in action and would "probably (play) the last three or four games."
Hartnell (foot) and Sullivan (back) may not be far behind, but Trotz did not reveal a specific timetable.
He said the Predators are being "very cautious" with Sullivan.
As for Hartnell, Trotz said: "I couldn't tell you. At this point we will see how he does every day. I don't want to give you a definite date, but as long as he keeps making progress we are looking to try to get him in the last couple games for sure."
I thought he was supposed to be back in the first...like, possibly just in time.
i was thinking it was 4 weeks from time of(3/17 stars), which would make it into the first round. of course the realistic is 3~5 weeks, which could mean in time for the first round our after the second.
Odd, I wonder if this thread title will stay the same for tomorrow's game...
As far as I know only a mod can change it...it has already lasted through two other Detroit games. Maybe we can get one of our lovely magician's to change it though since those two games we lost. ;-)
