Stan Fishler: Am i the only one who can't stand him?

Words cannot begin to describe how much I loathe him. He is so annoying that I can not even bear to watch the pre and post game shows because of his stupid comments. He is a dinosaur who's ideas on the game of hockey are still stuck in 1914 or whenever it was that he could still skate. Less than a month ago he was saying the Rangers would not make the playoffs, and now he makes it seem like he never doubted them. Why does MSG even put him on the air?

I've never liked him. The biggest problem I have is the way he's presented. If he was treated like an old, lovable curmudgeon it would be one thing. But MSG uses him like he's some sort of hockey insider and an "expert". And that's just not the case. Stan's a character more than he's a legitimate hockey source for insider info or info period.

I miss JD, I loved those random facts about what Trevor Linden did for his anniversary nine years ago that made his wife go, "awwwww."

I love Stan. Actually, I love all the New York area hockey personalities:

Stan, Steve, Joe, Howie, Sam, Deb, Billy, Doc, Chico, and whoever else I'm forgetting.

I think hes a great hockey historian. "Metro Ice" is a really interesting look at the history of hockey in ny. But as an analyst hes irrelevant.

Maven loves hockey and he's Ranger fan. So he is one of us. The rest doesn't count.

He was such a homer for the Isles in the 80's, am I the only one that remembers that?

His analysis is like everyone else, good or bad depending on what your own opinion is.

Stans a good historian and he was a great champion of hockey for many years in NYC when no one cared.

Stan would be great...

if he didn't try to speak about hockey. He's a historian and great at telling history. He just isn't a hockey guy and I too am not a fan.

I think he's alright. For me personally everything he says I take as a joke anyway. Seems like he's just there because he's supposed to be. Never really heard him say anything truly insightful, so I usually tend to just ignore him

Did anyone hear him in between the 2nd and 3rd period last night? He said he thought the Rangers should and would put Lundquist back in for the 3rd period.

I actually have spoken to him in person, and whatever else you may think of Stan he does have amazing amount of knowledge about hockey. He admitted to me it's hard to jump between teams, but that can be part of the job. I'm no a huge fan of Stan the analyst, and maybe MSG should use him just for the big picture stuff.

Fischler is a storehouse of trivia and nostalgia but is not an acute analyst of hockey games or a shrewd evaluator or players.

That's basically what I said earlier in the thread. He's not an analyst and he's not a insider. He is a throwback who could do very interesting expose pieces.

It's not that he doesn't have a grasp on the history of the game it's just that he more or less shills for whoever will pay him--mostly the Isles, Devs or Rangers. There's very little you get from him during a pregame and I wouldn't mind if they found a replacement who could add some real substance.
