HF's Team Board Mock Draft

Hey everybody. There's always variations of these every year on this site. The idea is to try to reach a consensus for who each team might pick would the fans of that team be in control.

We had one going about a month ago but unfortunately the user stopped polling teams. Rather than continuing his, I'm starting another mock draft, going team to team. Opinions may have changed from then till now anyway.

We have roughly 12 days left until the draft, which means there will only be 24 hours to select each player. Obviously, we're only looking for the fans of each team to vote on their pick.

Blues fans, you have the 21st overall pick

1. D Aaron Ekblad 85.71%
2. C Sam Reinhart 56.32%
3. C Sam Bennett 63.06%
4. C Leon Draisaitl 71.05%
5. C/LW Michael Dal Colle 68.83%
6. LW Nikolaj Ehlers Auto'ed
7. RW Nick Ritchie 52.94%
8. C/LW William Nylander 68.46%
9. C/LW Jake Virtanen 35.09%
10. LW Kasperi Kapanen 21.74%
11. LW Brendan Perlini 32.35%
12. C/LW Robby Fabbri 50%
13. D Haydn Fleury 75.68%
14. RW Kevin Fiala 63.64%
15. C Jared McCann 22.06%
16. LW Nikita Scherbak 38.24%
17. LW Sonny Milano 68.06%
18. C/RW Alex Tuch 32.50%
19. C/LW Ivan Barbashev 78.05
20. RW Josh Ho-Sang 35.71%
21. C/RW Nick Schmaltz 42.86
22.
23.
24.

So many options, not sure if it's a good or bad thing though.

Kempe.. ( good work ethic, has the size, great value pick and a Center)
Looked at Pastrnak/ Vrana/ Larkin... Pastrnak has upside and he would be a close second.

Went with Schmaltz. He would fit in very well on the team. Not a gamebreaking offensive player, but still very talented and solid in his own zone. Blues future powerplay would have Schmaltz, Schmaltz, and Schwartz. That's too fun to pass up.

Trade for Schultz, but the 5th will still be Frank lol.

I too went with Schmaltz. There's a few interesting players available though.

Torn between Kempe, Larkin and Pastrnak. Pastarnak might be BPA and I love how he plays. We could use a quick and flashy player like him. However, he doesn't play center and the other two do. Kempe and Larkin are more power forwards who can play center. Both can go to the hard places, have good shots, crash the net and play a north-south game. Larkin seems more developed right now and is stronger. Kempe probably needs more time to develop to fill out his slightly bigger, less developed frame, plus he is Sweedish. I think his upside is slightly higher though.

So, I am going to go with Larkin. He will be a solid 2nd line power forward. With the right development, can take over for Backes as our shut-down guy with offensive ability. I don't want us to bungle the development of another big Swweedish center with a hard shot, so I passed on Kempe although he was 2nd choice. If Pastarnak played center, he'd be my choice. BPA is really, really close, so I chose positional need. I'd be happy with any of these 3.

Edit: Just voted and I see a lot of people are voting for Schmaltz. Not a bad pick. I like him and his creativity but he is a reach at 21. He is projected at late 20s. I'd hope, but doubt we could get him with Edmonton's second. We could trade down and grab him if we are set on him. Maybe package our 3rd and 21st pick for a 2nd and the 26th-27th.

I'm kind of split in the same way, Kempe and Larkin.

Some of those picks are awful...will never realistically go that way.

Really? I don't think any of them are that bad. Scherbak is the only pick that can be classified as a reach. It all follows fairly closely to projections. As all the players 10-30 are so close, I wouldn't classify anything as terrible. Some might not fit needs, but in the draft you take the highest player on your board.

Sigh….people on this forum acting like they actually know anything about these players and aren't professional scouts who go travel and analyze these players like its their job

Funny and sad at the same time

Where's the American RH puck-moving defenseman?

And, the future pairing of Pietrangelo and DeAngelo will make Panger pee his pants.

2 D taken in the top 20??? Fabbri isn't going that high,Scherbak won't...I mean the mock drafts don't look anything like this. People are going with their heart and not the brain..

Literally everyone I want at 21 is picked . Went with Schmaltz. If this is how the draft plays out, if fine trading the 1st rounder for Spezza.

Decided on Larkin as well, even though Schmaltz was always going to win this poll. He's easily been the most discussed prospect on this board. Not sure if we expected Larkin to be gone or if we just forgot about him, but we never discussed him that much. I don't think many of us expected to pick at 21 and that's why Larkin didn't come up much.

Yea, Schmaltz probably will win. Not only what you said about how much he's been talked about, but also Kempe, Larkin and even Bleakley are splitting each other's votes. They are all bigger more two-way forwards while Schmaltz is a more offensive, playmaking forward. I would have voted for Kempe if not Larkin, and you said the same.

Ekblad is projected by every mock draft, list, poll, HF board member to be either #1 or #2, and mostly #1. The other D Fleury, I have seen in the low teens everywhere and even in the top 10. He and Ekblad are the end of solid NHL prospects, so if a team wants D, they will reach for him. He's 6'2" and already 200+lbs. He'll be big. And he is mobile with some offensive upside. Fabbri might be a reach there with his size, but his skill is there. I have seen him projected low teens to high 20s. So he might be a bit high here, but it is possible he could go around there.

Yeah, its crazy how people posting on a message board of a website dedicated to hockey prospects post about hockey prospect. Hilarious. I mean, its not like there are 100s of blogs and websites by people who do watch these kids professionally plus video all over the net to read and watch. Fans of a team will try their best to follow the prospects and discuss them. That is reality. I am fine being in the group, even if you find it funny. Other people on the internet will use the veil of anonymity to be an ass. Are you comfortable in your group?

Been looking at several "mock drafts" and finding Schmaltz way lower on the list and even 2nd round material. Are we really high on him or are other 'professionals' missing the boat?
