Winnipeg Jets Draft Report Card

What made you decide on your letter grade? Who were you excited to see the team draft and who were you disappointed?

Not as solid as last year but will that ever happen again! Im really happy with the Ehlers pick was hoping for him or Nylander as I wanted to see us draft high end skill. Also really like the upside of the Glover pick and the fact that Chevy took a Russian with upside shows that he is a beauty. Im pretty happy overall with this draft. Now onto one big trade, Buff to NYI!
edit: Can't wait for dev camp, seeing all of last year's draft picks with the likes of Ehlers and De Leo from this year, there will be lots of speed and skill out there.

I personally felt the Winnipeg Jets draft was awesome. Nikolaj Ehlers I feel is going to be the steal of the draft if he bulks up and continues his development. I would say drafting him, Glover and De Leo were steals for us and liked the fact we drafted size in the later rounds. I couldn't say I was disappointed in any picks although I feel a lack of information on our mid round picks makes me wonder what the teams realistic vision of them will be.

I don't think there is the same wealth of talent as last year, which got an A in my books. At the same time looks like we have some solid pickups.

Losing the 2nd didn't help though.

It's the same every year. Actually this year the Jets stayed "on the board" more than normal for teams. I'd argue you have more information on the mid round picks this year than any other year.

I voted for Good, which was a C.

This draft gets downgraded going into it because we used a second round pick to acquire Setoguchi.
I think the prospects we drafted warrant a B, but looking at it as a whole not having the second hurt us.

Voted A, as i think the Jets received great value on their picks. Not having a second, hurt, but they did very well, IMO with where they picked.

D, Jets needed a big centre and Chevy drafts a pint sized winger, Chevy forget the Jets now in the ''BIG" western conference?

No #2 for crappy Seto looks pretty stupid no as well

No playoffs in 2014-2015 and NO Chevy in June 2015!

So where we getting this big center from? He tried to trade up to #1, the price was probably in the neighborhood of Kane+9+prospect like Morrissey.

If we somehow traded Pavelec I would have voted awesome. As good as can be expected is probably the correct answer.

2013 is still my fave.
I think this one comes 2nd though.
Tough call as 2012 has Trouba and Hellebuyck.

Solid B from me.

I don't believe the talent available was the same as last year but I felt on the whole the Jets did well with the picks that they had.

Also Sip there was no good center with size around where they drafted so I am not at all upset about it. We got a dynamic skilled winger who brings a completely different and unique skill set to the team. One we lack. Also size down the middle is overrated.

Yeah, especially considering Tallon got an offer that was above and beyond, and still decided to keep the pick!

I can't really answer this question without knowing if it's based on the picks we had, or compared to other teams.

Sippy wont be complaining when Ehlers is a beast on our Power Play, something we don't have right now!

No one knows. But Tallon said repeatedly there was one offer that was "above and beyond" what he was expecting.

Funny that he didn't take it.

I say a B, mostly because they had no second round pick, and really nothing to show for it either.

I also like the fact that so many people are so very pleased with the draft results, and yet where chanting "TANK TANK TANK" a scant 3 months ago...

Somehow I think even if Ehlers scores 30+ goals as a rookie, wins the Calder, and gives the Jets a skill boost to propel them into the playoffs, Sippy will find something to complain about.

While watching Tallon interviews talking about dealing the first pick, I noticed his eyebrow twitched alot while he talked. I wonder if its a subtle tell for when he's lying.

I sure didn't like him trying to steal the show when announcing the first pick, making those kids sweat in the biggest moment of their lives.

I think part of that is thinking a top tier guy (top 5) might slip a pick or two. That didn't happen.

They all went top 5, and rest were guys we likely didn't rate as high. Worked out really well.

But if Nylander or Ritchie had slipped into the top 5, it may have been different. As it was Ehlers was highly rated most thought he likely wouldn't be there or the Jets would take him.
