Things are pretty rough in Oil Country.
Not as bad as during the lockout when we had the discussion about "The Friendly Giant" and the big assed chicken. That was the low point.

Good on Peterson. Diabetes is indeed manageable, but as a Type 1 diabetes, he will have many potential problems and concerns down the road.

To the usual chorus of Toby haters, I had forgotten this:

Quote:
In 2005-06, Petersen led the Iowa Stars in scoring and finished 16th in the American Hockey League scoring race with a career-high 73 points. The 5’10”, 197-pound native of Minneapolis, Minnesota scored 26 goals and a career-high 47 assists in 79 games with Iowa. He added 2-4-6 in seven Calder Cup playoff games.
And his first 16 GP in the AHL this year were at a PPG pace.

While he may be the exact definition of a "tweener," people have to remember the step up from the A to the NHL is significant. There probably isn't another Edmonton prospect who would have beat his AHL numbers this year if he had been down there. (minus Thoreson who was 3PPG in his 2GP, and Jacques who can be PPG in the A and be 0/39GP in the N).

It’s good to see that Toby is getting some recognition for what he’s had to overcome – even if the likelihood of him winning the trophy is slim.

Exactly how many games have you played in the NHL? Peterson is playing in the NHL and that's a lot more that can be said about you.

what about rem murray who came back to the game by sticking botox injections into his face and actually having to pay money to play?...i think that is more deserving...granted he's not in the league anymore though....

now that he's gotten some sort of recognition, mac-t will think he's a superstar and continue to play him like he's chris pronger...

Honestly, IMO, the award should be renamed for Rem, and he wasn't even a finalist last year. Teemu Selanne?!? The awards a friggin sham.

Paying to play. Incredible.

I know this was said awhile ago, but Testicular cancer is probably they least deadly cancer around, diabetes on the other hand can be extremely deadly, depending on what type it is.

Wasn't there an issue with Rem Murray because the Masterson is decided at the end of the regular season, and wouldn't have included the playoffs (which is pretty much when Rem played)?

He was the Oilers nominee last year, meaning he had clawed his way back to the NHL and had started paying the insurance in order to play before any votes were cast.

I know he was their nominee.

Unfortunately for Rem, he only played 9 games during the season though. I think had it included the playoffs, he was a cinch to win it.
