Playoff Push 07 GDT NYR @ NYI

We've been through ups and downs, We' ve been told we cant do it, and wont make it, but tonight on the Island.....

@

A Rangers Victory means a playoff berth for the broadway blueshirts...and a chance to chase that exclusive...

Heres a little motivation for you all- Written by Scott Burnside-halfway through the season...here where he predicts the Rangers will finish up

New York Rangers
A team that gutted out victory after victory through the first two-thirds of last season seems to have lost its way this season even though, on paper, the Blueshirts should be better with the addition of Brendan Shanahan, Matt Cullen and Aaron Ward. Even with netminder Henrik Lundqvist regaining his elite form of a year ago, the Rangers' lack of offensive depth continues to be an albatross.

First-half surprises: Plagued by injuries, Cullen has just nine goals at the break after playing an important role in the Hurricanes' Stanley Cup run last season with a career-best 25 goals. Shanahan has 24 goals at the break, but his last even-strength goal was Dec. 9.

Second-half questions: Can GM Glen Sather find some secondary scoring before the trade deadline? Will the All-Star break give Jaromir Jagr enough rest to carry the Rangers into the postseason?

Where they'll finish: Lacking depth, especially up front, the Rangers fall just short with a third-place finish in the division and a ninth-place finish in the conference.

Rangers (41-29-9) at N.Y. Islanders (36-30-12), 7:30 p.m. ET

STANDINGS: Islanders -- 84 points, 5th place, Atlantic Division. Rangers -- 89 points, 3rd place, Atlantic Division

TEAM LEADERS: Islanders -- Jason Blake, 39 goals; Tom Poti, 34 assists; Blake and Ryan Smyth, 66 points each; Brendan Witt, 127 PIM. Rangers -- Jagr and Martin Straka, 29 goals each; Jagr, 64 assists and 93 points; Sean Avery, 168 PIM.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Islanders -- Power play: 17.8 percent (59 for 331). Penalty killing: 81.4 percent (342 for 420). Rangers -- Power play: 19.0 percent (75 for 394). Penalty killing: 83.9 percent (323 for 385).

GOALTENDERS: Islanders -- Dunham (4-10-3, 0, 3.74); Dubilewicz (0-1-0, 0, 2.33). Rangers -- Lundqvist (36-21-7, 5, 2.37); Stephen Valiquette (1-2-0, 0, 3.13).

2006-07 SEASON SERIES: Islanders, 4-1-2 (Rangers, 3-4-0)

NOTE- A Rangers victory combined with a Montreal victory over Boston would eliminate the Islanders from Playoff contention

.................................................. ............WE GIVE THEM HELL! (inspired by dank)

Lets Go Rangers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Line for line we are better than them. So unless we lay a stinker, there's no way we lose this game. If we come out to play, they stand no chance. Hell, if both teams 'show up', we still win.

Dubie in net for the Islanders.

Quote:
You could tell that Ted Nolan went into his interview scrum with the intention of not announcing his starting goaltender for Tuesday night's showdown with the Rangers at the Coliseum. But the coach is such an honest man, he couldn't help but crack when asked by Bloomberg Radio's Chris King if Wade Dubielewicz showed enough on Saturday to earn a second consecutive start.

Nolan grinned, hesitated, thought about it for a moment and then said, "Yeah, I think so. He played well. Dubie battles. We like that. I think it's fair to say you'll see him again."

Jagr, Prucha, & Shanny for the goals.

From todays Newsday:

Nolan, too, said it doesn't pay to worry about Avery and Hollweg.

"We have to ignore those guys and worry about their real players," Nolan said.

What, is he implying that Hollywood and Avery are illusions?

No its not a must-must win. But if this team is really seroius they'll put a choke hold on a playoff spot tonight. The Isles are going to give it all they got, they really want to beat us.

Well, he's right not to worry about Hollweg, since, I'm guessing, Hollweg sits again. And, if he's foolish enough NOT to worry about Avery, so be it. Let it bite him in the @$$.

do the rangers clinch if they win??

hate to admit it but they look good. they have the tools to make for an exciting run. If lundquist keeps it up then look out.
With that said, Go isles!!!

p.s will be at the game but dissowned from family for missing Passover. Some things are more important!!!
