Julien was hired on as coach of the Habs, was he not? If I recall correctly, Julien was coaching a farm team shared by the Oiler & the Habs and the Oiler's had to officially release his 'rights' so that he could coach the Habs. If this is correct, what were the circumstances of his release then?
"Because the Canadiens share the AHL Bulldogs with the Edmonton Oilers this season, Julien was actually under contract with the Oilers. As compensation, Montreal will send a fifth-round draft pick in 2003 to Edmonton. The pick will become a fourth-rounder if the Habs make the playoffs.
"(Oilers GM) Kevin Lowe called me this morning to congratulate me and wish me luck," Julien said. "I was really well treated by the Oilers. They gave me my first (pro) chance. Kevin Lowe is a classy guy." "
I don't supose we could give Julien a job with our AHL franchise in Springfield next year if no other team makes a coaching change? He's be a solid pick up. Or even better, we could fire Craig Simpson and hire Julien to coach our powerplay immediately..
