Hehe, I didn't really doubt the new measurements though, as the FHR website lists Sokolov as 180 cm (5'11") and 90 kg (198 pounds).

He's Russian, we won't see consistent measurements and he'll be a bit of a mystery but he'll probably show up as a 6'0" 220lbs man-child in his draft year

Probably. Very Tarasenko like build, hope he can keep his physique under control . Kovy and Ovy gained 20-30 lbs after being drafted.

Will he play MHL/KHL full time this year?

You forgot to mention that he had 2g+3a in that game playing RW on the fourth line. "The Omsk Hawks"(Sokolov's team) crushed "Batyr" from Ufa(?) 7:0.

MHL - for sure. KHL - I doubt it. He is only 16, nobody played KHL at that age if I'm not mistaken. May be if he tears MHL apart he'll be given a chance, who knows.

Any reason why he was left off the U17 team expanded roster? injured?

Do you mean the team that plays at Hlinka tournament? The reason is clear - the headcoach. Rumyantsev is the most corrupt coach in russian junior hockey. But I'm pretty sure Sokolov will be on the team when the spring comes.

there's only one 98-born player who deserves to play for the u18 team. and it's not sokolov. as for those friendlis with finns, it's clearly not our best roster. the coach must have decided to look at some new players.

No, I wasn't referring to the U18 Hlinka tournament for 97 born players. He was left off the expanded roster for U17 team, 1998 born players.

To be fair, plenty of bigger names are missing from that list.

Sokolov is the best 98-born player. That's what I've heard and read through a couple of years and now I see that it seems to be true. Another one who is always mentioned is Abramov, but I haven't seen a single game with him. By the way he is also not on the roster of U17 team.

That doesn't mean Sokolov will have a chance tho, Avangard is not Sibir circa 2008. And Raimo Summanen isn't his dad.

Avangard is an elite team and one of the leaders of KHL, it will be very very hard for Sokolov to play even one single game there this year. Well, it's just impossible, let's be fair. It was 2008-2009 season when Tarasenko and Kabanov played for Sibir and Spartak being 16 years old(late 16). Both Sibir-2008-09 and Spartak 2008-09 is not even near the level of Avangard-2014-15.

Wow. That seems incredibly heavy for a 16 year old. That's 212 pounds.

He could still grow, but he's already big enough to be classified as a power forward.

Wth, I thought his previous 198 listing was heavy at his height and especially age, 212 is just massive...

4 goals in 3 games as one of the youngest players in the league, not a bad start

Hope whoever gets McDavid or Eichel this year end up finishing towards the bottom next year and get Sokolov as well, can you imagine one of those two with this kid

2 more goals today so 6g in 5 games pretty good start for this kid.

Full game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mxtz2Lh1YGI
(Sokolov #98, another 2016 draft player Vitaly Abramov #47 in Chelyabinsk)
