Shea Weber is too busy collecting that check.

Itll be a lot less of a downer if Poile can find one more decent forward somewhere. As a depth signing this is a good deal... but as a projected #1 C (like Cullen was thought to be last year) this is a bummer

Exactly. It's not the long awaited savior, but it's a fairly reliable and durable guy that can put up some points and came dirt cheap.

Best case scenario is Wilson being traded in a package for E. Staal. But that's incredibly unlikely.

theres not enough room on the check for all those zeroes, so I hear weber takes his signing bonus in cash... that would be the dump truck that was seen pulling up to his bank

He's a good bet to be more productive than Grabo, and on a contract that we won't regret later.

He's been really durable.

His #'s aren't that far off from Brad Richards.
I agree with you. Sure we had our sights set higher but I think this is Poile making due because he wasn't able to get the players he wanted. I don't know what else he is suppose to do aside from over paying FAs; which inevitably people will say is stupid. The guy was dirt cheap and had similar numbers to others on the market who people were saying we should sign. It's just fun to pile on I guess...

I will just have to stay off our board for a while. Things are a little high drama around here.

My only issue is this will take ice time away from Wilson and Jarnkrok at center. We need these guys to be gaining valuable NHL experience now so we can see if they are worth betting our future on.

Thats not as unrealistic as it may sound. Wilson and a defenseman and next years 1st rounder might get Staal. Who knows what Poile has going on. But as usual he is quiet as a mouse.

I think the point that most of us are making is that we would rather be giving our younger guys a chance and seeing if they actually pan out then giving a washed up old fart top 6 minutes.

This is Wilson's make or break year. We need to give him as many chances to succeed as possible to evaluate his true potential, something he never had under trotz. Same with Iron Hook. So what if they **** the bed? We become a lotto team with a chance for McDavid. That doesn't sound so bad compared to fighting for a playoff lives again and failing. We will fail too. Chicago, LA, Colorado, Anaheim, St. Louis are all significantly better than us. Minnesota is better than us. That leaves it between San Jose, Dallas, Arizona and us for the final two spots. I really don't think we are better than two of those squads.

Unless this is a precursor to a huge move by Poile to trade Wilson, it makes no sense.

No thanks, I am done reading his 'analysis' -- with emphasis on the first four letters. He is not a beat writer, he is a stenographer. I think most of us could author better stuff than he posts.

This is not meant to pick on you but there is no advantage to play either of these two on top lines for experience. This has been one of Wilsons problems all along playing on lines over his head and struggling or failing.

Consider this Nate McKinnion was used on a second line as talented as he is. Now do we think that Wilson or Jarnkrok even closely approach that talent level?

No matter how much we like a player its unfair to the player and the team to set them up to fail. Perhaps thats why Trotz system never developed forwards many were forced into playing far above there current level of experience. From Legwand thru Hartnell to Borque and Wilson. Trotz was crucified for inability to deveolp but we now expect the same approach to work.

Holy ****! We agree I agree with you. It's a miracle.

If Wilson and hook can't beat out old man Olli then maybe he's not as bad as every body is saying?

another long shot possibility is that in doing this Poile now has a lot more leverage with Philadelphia, especially if we were the only team willing to consider taking VLC. Maybe now Poile leverages this into a deal where we get Vinny plus another player and send someone like Bourque or Watson to Philly

Jokinen was decent for the Jets last year, but I never liked him. He doesn't have a puck possession game at all and he makes really terrible passes. But he has a good shot.

He's a great leader and locker-room guy, though, so the coaches love him.

I'm glad we didn't resign him though.

Can't pass and good leadership, sounds like the prototypical pred.

not saying it isn't, but 90 minutes later and you would think that the team would have acknowledged it.
