I'm not down on Bickell nearly as much as most Hawks fans. He is overpaid because he has proven he can perform in the playoffs. He is the only forward on the roster that can throw big hits. Without him on the roster the other teams dmen have zero worries about Chicago's forecheck, there is no reason to be looking back over their shoulder expecting to take a big hit. He has a good shot when someone is feeding him the puck, and we have guys that can do that. I would like to give him another shot in the playoffs after coming off a season where he was injured and signed that big contract. He can split time between the 2nd and 3rd lines during the regular season and then jump to the 2nd line come playoff time. I just think there are better options for shedding salary for the upcoming season.

Exactly. I'd go as far as saying trading BB is not an option right now. Period.

16 points sucks but I think people forget he shattered his leg early in the season and had to play on a bum leg for most of the year.

Excuses are excuses, but as of now he's the only guy on our roster who can do what he does. If someone has to go I'd prefer it to be (in this order)...

-Rozsival
-Versteeg
-Oduya/Leddy
-Bickell

Yep, that's completely off the table. That was only an option to create a lot of space for a much bigger move.

I'm not expecting Bickell to be anything special in the playoffs, but I think it would be a mistake to move him right now. They need a large body so it's either a decision to eat cap space on Bickell or gamble on another large body that probably will be wasting some cap space. I don't think there is a reasonable replacement option available. Shaw or Morin won't come close to being as effective physically in my opinion.

I think he'll cost points in the standings again but they need that big body to change up the lines in the playoffs if they're going to do anything.

I wonder if they're looking at acquiring anybody else today.

All I am hearing is this from John Jaeckel

Rumor: Chicago-Ottawa Blockbuster Discussed

"Basic parameters of deal would be: Patrick Sharp and Nick Leddy to Ottawa for Colin Greening, Zack Smith and 2013 1st round selection, Curtis Lazar. I have heard of Hawk interest in Greening and Smith now from two separate sources in the U.S. and Canada."

That would be all sorts of awful. I'd rather lose Sharpie for nothing in free agency than trade him for that. Not to mention Leddy

Jaeckel has no sources and has never been right

And the deal he put forth is horrendous for Hawks. Give up a top line LW and a young NHL defender for a 3rd line C , A #13 forward (Greening is terrible player) and a ok prospect

I don't see any possibility that the Sens trade Lazar. He's their best prospect and looks very promising. And they're a budget team.

Murray stated yesterday at the press conference that he has a deal but are trying to figure out what prospect we are willing to give up. Didn't say with whom he was talking too though.

They would get Sharp and Leddy... They are worth more than Lazar

Ottawa pretty much has rebuild at this point, they are on a budget, and Lazar is their top prospect. I do not see trading him as being desirable for them. However, perhaps I will be wrong. We'll find out in time, I guess.

Morin is a roster player who the Blackhawks won't be able to send to the AHL without waivers - so he's on the team or he's on another team.

Raanta is the backup goalie, so I don't understand what your point it.

Can people just stop referencing any rumor Jaeckel puts out there?

Total agree with that. There is no way we are getting rid of Sharp now. Maybe Leddy, but why would we not just dump Rozival, Bickell, Versteeg? A huge move doesn't need to be made and it would make no sense to get rid of Sharp. Now maybe we have a deal with the Senators, but there's no way sharpie is involved.

If they want Sharp and Leddy, they have to give to get.

you said we won't play the kids again. Morin was in the AHL last year, he is one of those kids. Same can be said about Nordstrom. Just for example of not playing the young guys again... and you have that guy named Teräväinen

Yeah, Karlsson. There's nothing else they have worth those two players.

The point is that I doubt the Sens are going to do any deal that involves them trading away Lazar. Like I said, perhaps you are right and I am wrong. We will find out eventually.

I don't recall saying that roster players like Morin would be put on waivers. I do not see players who must be put on the NHL roster (or traded) b/c they aren't waiver exempt as being 'kids'.

I will believe that Q gives Teravainen a chance when I see it happen. As it stands now, it's difficult to see him on the team for cap reasons, especially if it's Leddy who is traded.

Yup, this is where I am at too.
Nobody can replace what Bickell can bring to our lineup come playoff time.

Talk about it next year when T & K have their extensions kick in.
