I saw on thn.com (hockey news) that lundqvist is a restricted free agent.....hes going to want a hefty raise....will this interfere with other potential FA signings?

considering he's only paid like $800,000 a season and is maybe our BEST player. He deserves the raise. Thats the guy you pay.

Plus, with Weeke's 2mil coming off the cap we can use some of that towards Henrik's contract.

Isn't there some kind of restriction on how much he can get paid next year only being a 3rd year player?

he's basically ganna get between 3-4 mill, (see miller, ryan) which i think we have plenty of cap space with weekes/ozo coming off the books to accomodate

No. The only restrictions are on the first contract the player signs.

If I were a Ranger fan, I'd be thrilled to see that type of deal. Four and a half million a year for a guy who figures to be one of the league's best starters for a long time would be robbery. Just think with inflation, by 2015, roughly half way through the contract, comparables will be making somewhere around $10-12 million.

That deal will probably turn out very well for the Islanders long term, IMO, but I'd be more willing to give it to Lundqvist than DiPietro. Sure, it is a very big risk, but it could be a major steal for them.

I only hope that the Flyers don't throw a 8m offer sheet his way.

Which would make 5 (wasn't it 5) first rounders for us and we still have Montoya. I would prefer keeping Henke though

There's not a single athlete, let alone an NHL goalie, who is worth signing to a 15-year deal. None. Nada. There are just way too many things that can happen to completely f--- up their career.

If a team does it, it won't be the Flyers. They just signed Biron to a 2-year deal worth $3.5 per year last week.

I think other teams will try to sign him(who wouldnt)but it seems to me that he enjoys being a Ranger and living in NYC, so going with that I can see the Rangers offering him a 3-4mil deal and him signing on the dotted line.

If we can get him signed for between 3-4 million--we definitely should go for it. Don't be surprised if it's a little bit higher than that--especially if we go deep into the playoffs. This guy looks to me to be an elite goaltender. Definitely top 5 at his position in the leauge--arguably as good as any goalie anywhere right now. Of course he has not won anything besides an Olympic goal medal and a couple Swedish Elite Leauge championships and maybe a European Championship (not sure of that) but give him time--he's only 24. Length of contract is another item and I'd like to see 4 years at the least.

And all the Islander fans weeped until they realized that for the first time ever, someone had beaten Snow to the punch.

Don't re-sign him. Didn't you guys see him try to murder the helpless Icegirl last night?

We can't sign a guy who's tried to kill someone before!
