I don't think either offer is fair for Buffalo.

Hodgson wont get moved for quantity. It would need a better deal than just stuff from the pile you are happy to move from.

Well then what exactly is Buffalo in the market for? I know they just bought out Ehroff so do they need defencemen to replace him?

They added Gorges and Mezaros to replace him.

I don't think Buffalo needs anything right now. They have basically every type of player in the prospect pool. They have solid goaltending and their defense is alright, could use a bottom pair LD to push Weber down.

This year will be a lot of waiting. There are no pressing needs

Tim Murray came from Ottawa so knows their prospect pool quite well and likely has a short lists of prospects he wants.

There was alot of talk after the Miller trade and getting Stewart that he'd flip him to Ottawa for 2 prospects/picks. That didn't happen.

With Ennis an RFA and likely a difficult negotiation, he could be on the trade block. Buffalo has a strong prospect pool and likely doesn't want Ennis longer than 3 yrs unless he trades Hodgson, then could sign Ennis long term. He likely doesn't want both Ennis and hodgson on long contracts given their deep prospect pool that will top off next draft.

Complete speculation. There's literally no indication that Murray is heading in the direction of anything you've said was "likely."

Buffalo has had player/prospect depth since before the first lockout. Now we have it, and we're all about moving it.

likely is my gut instinct.....I don't see them both on long term contracts in the future. If they are then one gets traded..

Ennis and Hodgson locked up long term in $4M + contracts given they have in the pipeline:

Girgensons
Grigorenko
Armia
Reinhart
2015 1st ( likely top 3)
Carrier
Fasching
Compher
Baptiste
Foligno
+ other players who would be due their 2nd or 3rd contract before Hodgson and Ennis are done with theirs.

Don't thnk it's a good long term planning move. By 17/18 the team will have the players from 2013-2015 drafts signed and in their system ( 14 forwards at least)

Hodgson is worth a second round pick at most.

i'd say he's worth more than that, at least a 1st in the 20-30 range + a B prospect like Prince

I don't want (insert player being offered) even if it only cost me (insert low draft pick). That guy is (choose one: "over-the-hill"/"done"/"not-what-he-used-to-be"/"way-overrated"/"not-what-we-need-right-now")

Don't really have a need for Hodgsen after getting Legwand and having Turris & Zbad long term.

I'd prefer Murray makes another shrewd move for an under the radar guy on a decent contract over the much talked about names.

Hodgson plays LW.

He played there late in the season alongside Girgensons and was awesome.

These are the posts that make an entire fan base look bad. If he wore red, black and gold he'd be worth a 1st and a prospect.

Was that what turris' value was when we aquired him?

Alfie has already stated numerous times, That it's either Detroit or retirement. He and his family plan on living in the Detroit area this year regardless if he plays or retires. He's waiting until August to possibly sign so he can see how his back will be.

Yeah, the biggest knock on Cody was always that you didnt know how he would slot as a top 6 C and it was up in the air if he could play the same type of high skill game from the wing. He answered a lot of my questions by excelling as a wing, and I think it makes him much more desirable than if he could only play C. I'd have very low interest as a C but very high as a wing.

I prefer Ennis over Hodgson but I'd like to keep both if possible this year.

I'd then move on plus our surplus of prospects/picks at the draft next year for a young top 6 winger (Evander Kane comes to mind)

What are the chances that all those prospects and players pan out? I say unlikely. And then there's no reason to trade Ennis or Hodgson.

And Ottawa trades a fourth-round pick in 2016 and prospect Jean-Gabriel Pageau in exchange for Bryan Bickell and a sixth-round pick in 2015...

Would be funny if it came to pass.

The only way someone doesn't overpay on Bickell's contract is if the team has an honest to god shot at the Cup

The guy is pretty bad in the regular season
