I was working with a couple agents from different online companies and the small studios in the UES or UWS were typically in the $1,650-$1,800 range.

Just something to look into, I had a large 1 bedroom in Astoria in that range. 1 block from the subway line and only 3 stops to Manhattan so it usually took me less time to get to work in Midtown than some of my friends that lived on the UES. Not to mention that the UES can't compete with Astoria when it comes to food, culture, and a real NYC neighborhood feel.

Rent in the safe areas of Manhattan are back up to pre-recession levels. It's nuts. I've been at the same apartment for three years now only because my rent is stabilized.

Where do some of you go in the city for pizza? Looking to try some new places out. Thank you!

In Brooklyn:
Totanno's
L&B Spumoni Gardens
Di Fara's

In Manhattan:
Artichoke Basille's
Patsy's (the original on 117th St.)
Sal & Carmine's
Motorino

There are plenty other great places. Those are just the ones I've had the pleasure of visiting.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I really was pushing for the UWS in large part because of the commute, but obviously the UES had more availability.

Are the landlord rental requirements as difficult as in Manhattan?

About the same I'd imagine, proof of at least 40x rent per year, 50x with a guarantor. Possibly more depending on the landlord.

Is smoking allowed in bars on LI? More specifically Mineola or Carle Place.

Nope. Pretty sure there's a statewide ban.

Actually... maybe you could find a place that has outdoor space?

Hello Rangers fans,

Does anyone know of any good hockey bars in Manhattan that would likely be showing the draft? Audio of it would be a plus, but not a necessity. I've gotta find a good spot to watch my version of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Thanks!

Rose Pizza and Pasta at Penn Station. The only pizza place I go to when I am in the city!

Best place to pre-game before going to an event at MSG. Under-the-radar great pizza and 32oz drafts for $4-6. Can't beat it.

Just a lil' shout out to the guy here who mentioned Sarge's when I asked for deli recommendations during the NYC stay of my honeymoon. The brisket sandwich was the bomb, and so was the reuben my wife had. Tried the pastrami at Katz's too, but I liked Sarge's even better.

As for the rest of the comprehensive list of establishments, I'll get thru them all during my next visit. Whenever that will be.

Even though I wish I could have been inside MSG instead, laying on my hotel bed listening to the crowd singing after the one SCF victory was pretty awesome. Next visit will mos def be during the regular season.

Hey guys, me and my girl are planning to take a week-long trip to NYC in early december.
First time in the US for both of us. Decent hotel recommendations? Like $75-150 a night-ish, something like that.
Please, send me a message, I'll probably forget to check this thread again, I rarely visit the NYR forum being a Flyers fan, hah.

Thanks!

Montréal fan coming in peace.

I'm in NYC next week and I wanted to ask you guys if you ever heard about a museam (in NY) with a bunch of old product / marketing mistakes (blue pepsi etc etc). Apparantly the collection was sold but I can't find any info online.

Thank you

nothing in manhattan, for that price you'll probably have to stay in the outer boros or jersey and take public transit into the city.

I really have no idea. If you find one, please let me know.

Our resident artist, aufheben, may know.

Maybe this is why I'm a Rangers fan: I took a quiz on Brainfall that's titled "How New York City are you?" and ended up at 79%! I think I'm living in the wrong city!

Yeah, I figured that much, but I don't mind staying in either place actually. I'd rather spend extra money on doing stuff, since I'm guessing we won't spend any time at all, except for sleep, at the hotel.

Cheap stays at the Best western or the Sleep Inn, both are in Brooklyn, just a short subway ride into Manhattan.

That or try to find an apartment for rent on Craigs list, though you will probably not be able to book that far in advance with an apartment owner, doesnt hurt to try.

If you do not mind waiting, you can use Hotwire at the last second and find deals that are within your price range.

Those quizzes don't work well. I'm 76% NYC, 77% Southern and I should live in LA.
