Hey guys,

I was wondering what you guys thought of Taylor Beck as a prospect?

Has he dropped down the pecking order or does he have a chance to make the team this year?

I like Beck. I'd take him over Nystrom or Stahlberg.

The problem with Beck last year was Poile went out and signed too many players last year, filling any spots that he would have had on the team. Not sure where he ends up this year. I think it will be determined by what Poile does about the Fisher injury.

this is pretty much a make or break year for him. Two years ago he played well, when the Preds had a rash of injuries, but last year he didnt get much time at the NHL level and apparently didnt have as good a year in Milwaukee as he had in previous years.

if he doesnt make the Preds out of camp, he had better either light it up in Milwaukee or make a major impression if and when he does get a call up, or else he will get passed by

Too poor of a skater at the NHL level.

Beck will be a 4th liner in the NHL with brief stint on 3rd line.

So is Hartford not the CT Whale anymore? That went quick.

Haven't been for at least a year, for some reason I'm thinking two years though.

I don't pay attention to the Eastern Conference though because there's no reason to.

AHL Rule changes:

Quote:
Rule 85 (“Overtime”)
During the regular season, the sudden-death overtime period will be seven minutes (7:00) in length, preceded by a “dry scrape” of the entire ice surface.

Teams will change ends at the start of overtime.

Full playing strength will be 4-on-4 until the first whistle following three minutes of play (4:00 remaining), at which time full strength will be reduced to 3-on-3 for the duration of the overtime period.

If the game is still tied following overtime, a winner will be determined by a three-player shootout.

Rule 20.4 (“Major Penalties”)
An automatic game misconduct will be applied to any player who has been assessed two major penalties for fighting or three major penalties for any infraction in the same game.

Rule 9.6 (“Helmets”)
A player on the ice whose helmet comes off during play will be assessed a minor penalty unless he immediately (a) exits the playing surface or (b) puts the helmet back on with the chin strap properly fastened.

“With the full support of the league’s Competition Committee and Player Development Committee, the Board has approved these changes with the betterment of our game and the safety of our players in mind,” said Andrews.

In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 88 percent of today’s NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the 13th year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2013-14.

Does anyone think Forsberg will make the team out of camp and stay?

Has a good chance now Fisher is out. Would be wasted outside the top 6 and PP unit though.

Ah, they're finally going to the three-player shootout instead of the five-player one they cribbed from the IHL all those years ago.

Yeah, I'm not optimistic about that helmet rule. Guy gets hit in the far corner away from his own bench on the penalty kill, he has to try to pick up his helmet and put it back on and - oops, the opposing team scored.

Or a ref isn't paying attention, the same thing happens in the corner and the player starts skating towards the bench but since the ref didn't know where the helmet came off, he calls a penalty.

I think it's ridiculous to punish a player who gets hit hard enough that his helmet comes off if he doesn't put it back on correctly (seriously, who's going to do that?) or go to the bench immediately.

I've heard references to the Admirals also looking different now as Laviolette has a different development focus than Trotz. Does this mean that Nashville coaches dictate the style the Admirals play?

Not officially, however the Milwaukee coaching staff has for the most part tried to incorporate many of the same systems as the Predators have employed to encourage development and ease the transition to the NHL level upon being recalled.

Officially though, they are free to run their systems to suit the skills of their team and do, but the differences are generally subtle.

Then Milwaukee has no RHD that I am aware of, since Ford is probably gone.

Some people were high on COR as a prospect. What happened?

His (AHL rookie) stats for last season: 66 games 4 G 13 A 19 PIMs +3

His stats were better than Ford, Valentine and Jaarvinen.

He was the youngest D-man on the team during the regular season. He is 23.

I was disappointed to see only one Nashville prospect, but you are only covering the OHL.

He is a big kid 6-3, 222 lbs from Finland who plays defense. He shoots left handed, as all Nashville D-men are required to do. He made no appearances during Milwaukee's 2013-2014 three game playoff run. He was assigned #12.

Milwaukee will be getting Tristan Grant (second time) and Rob Madore, the #1 goalie from the Cincinnati Cyclones Kelly Cup finalists.

just curious what will happen with the Ads signing a goalie on their own, if nashville sends both Mazanec and Hellberg to Milwaukee. Can a player signed only to the Ads get sent to Cincinnati?

It is the same situation as Darling from last year. Darling was signed in September and played in Cincinnati until Milwaukee needed him.

It sure better... one need only look at the Kings and the Manchester Monarchs over the past 3 years to determine that there is NO other way to go.
