So I honestly haven't followed Gionta's career that much besides knowing the teams he's played on that he's a good leader. I tried finding information on what happened to him to injur his biceps like he did, but it looks like it happened during the playoffs so there's not much information besides UBI.

Anyone know what specifically happened to Gionta that he had to have surgery to re-attach his biceps? And was it both arms or one arm?

Tore both biceps in the span of a year and half on two separate injuries.

Thanks for the info. That seems like a really weird injury in the first place, then to have it twice seems even weirder.

The Devils don't trap, at least not anymore.

Back to the point, Gionta was a guy I always admired. Just to piggyback on the point one of the Montreal fans made earlier, he started going to those high traffic areas a little less even when he was with New Jersey. He had one of the best seasons in NJ Devils history in 05-06 when he set the franchise record for single season goals and I want to say more than half of those were tips and rebounds. I'll always have a soft spot for him.

Gionta

I have to admit, since he's been stapled to the third line with Larsson and Foligno, he hasn't been quite the tire fire he was earlier in the year.

I think you're underplaying him quite a bit.

Not only has he been "not a tire fire", but he's actually been QUITE GOOD at the role he's clearly meant to play at this point in his career. A role that most of us had him pencilled into way back in October -- that of a defensively sound winger that's good on the cycle and sound defensively.

That he's found such good chemistry with Marcus and Johan is great.

That's just him in his Seth Rogen protective suit.
