2014-15 AHL Alignment

http://theahl.com/ahl-alignment-2014-15-p192750

Western Conference
North Division
Adirondack Flames
Hamilton Bulldogs
Rochester Americans
Toronto Marlies
Utica Comets

Midwest Division
Chicago Wolves
Grand Rapids Griffins
Lake Erie Monsters
Milwaukee Admirals
Rockford IceHogs

West Division
Charlotte Checkers
Iowa Wild
Oklahoma City Barons
San Antonio Rampage
Texas Stars

Eastern Conference
Atlantic Division
Manchester Monarchs
Portland Pirates
Providence Bruins
St. John's IceCaps
Worcester Sharks

Northeast Division
Albany Devils
Bridgeport Sound Tigers
Hartford Wolfpack
Springfield Falcons
Syracuse Crunch

East Division
Binghamton Senators
Hershey Bears
Lehigh Valley Phantoms
Norfolk Admirals
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins

Changes from last season include:
• Calgary’s affiliate relocating from Abbotsford, B.C., to Glens Falls, N.Y., and playing in the North Division
• Philadelphia’s affiliate relocating from Glens Falls, N.Y. to Allentown, Pa., and playing in the East Division
• Syracuse moving from the East Division to the Northeast Division
• Lake Erie moving from the North Division to the Midwest Division
• Iowa moving from the Midwest Division to the West Division

The format for the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs has also been approved by the Board of Governors and remains the same as 2014: Eight teams in each conference will qualify for the postseason, with the three division winners earning the top three seeds and the next five best teams in order of regular-season points seeded fourth through eighth. The conference quarterfinals will be best-of-five series; the conference semifinals, conference finals and Calder Cup Finals will be best-of-seven series. Teams will be re-ordered after the first round so that the highest-remaining seed plays the lowest-remaining seed.

And this alignment means absolutely nothing when it comes to scheduling.

Interesting to see Albany-Adirondack, Rochester-Syracuse, and Syracuse-Bingo all broken up. Not that divisions really have any impact on the schedule.....

Albany-Adirondack Calder Cup Final......mark my words.

Will be interesting to see if LV can make it up to Adirondack, and if the Utica-Adirondack rivalry can take off.

pretty much predicted alignment, depends on whether you flipped BNG and Syr in the East, and the 3 western teams were spot on as aligned in an earlier thread:

LE TO MW, Iowa and Adirondack essentially swapping divisions to keep the 15-15.

Six NY teams in 3 divisions. If the AHL ever does go to 6 team divisions, maybe the NY teams can be the Empire division.

Empire Division has already happened under previous alignments, ads (1997-2000) around the time the League was listening to acquiring Milwaukee and the other 5 clubs that commenced the expansion/merger of 2001.

I guess that I should have added the word "again".

Thanks Hutch, I am aware of some of the previous AHL history.
