Also a bit of a more ready C than Horvat

Habs get two great prospects, and a hard working winger
What a stupid trade this is LOL.

Why would they trade Jake Virtanen and Shinkaruk for Maccaron or Ellers. They literally picked Shinkaruk a single spot above Maccron last draft, if they wanted him they would have taken him.

Why the hell would they ever trade Virtanen for Ellers? Ellers is a plug and Virtanen has a way better upside. If the trade wasn't already leaning one way completely Vancouver throws in Hansen just so they get burned some more.

...while this proposal is truly putrid, Eller had 13 points and was dominant in 17 playoff games this year after a down regular season where he was given no PP time & a revolving door of linemates...30 points in 46 games last year...and the best part is that he's a great two-way player...forgive us Habs fans if we don't trust a Leaf fan's evaluation of talent...

He's still a useless plug with a way lower ceiling than Virtanen and Shinkaruk, what's your point?

Eller does not blow. However, I am unconvinced by him as a passable 2C. I'm equally unconvinced by Nick Bonino in the same role, incidentally, but I don't think Eller solves any of Vancouver's current issues in the middle.

Either way, as noted by everyone, this proposal is bad and OP should feel bad, so if we can just lock this thread and forget it ever happened?

Although as a Habs fan I agree the OP's trade is not good for the Canucks, why would you embarrass yourself by saying this?

The point is that he was drafted in 2013. Writing him off after playing one season in the OHL after coming over from the USHL is extremely short sighted. Give the guy time. Big bodied players normally take more time to develop and grow into their bodies. Let's see in 3 - 5 years how he's doing before he's called a useless plug.

If Shinkaruk has such a higher ceiling, why was he selected just one spot ahead of McCarron? Could it be that he also has holes in his game or maybe he needs to get bigger? All players have things to develop and work on.

Sorry I was so brutally negative.

McCarron was just very disappointing when I saw him.

He's a work in progress for sure, some raw ability, could still be a good third liner, I just don't think he's up to par with the assets we are giving up in this deal.

Lol classic Montreal Vancouver thread.

Hmm one team has drafted top 3 previously and it's not the team you're thinking it should be. Montreal just doesn't have enticing pieces for a team looking to build a youth core since most of their core is only slightly older youth and wouldn't be available.
Just shut it down before we have to hear how McCarron is gonna be the next Corey Perry and Hunter Shinkaruk who damn near made the NHL as an 18 year old is the next Fabian Brunnstromm

No worries. It's going to be a process for him to make the jump to the NHL for sure. I wouldn't make a comment on the original proposal, it was pretty brutal.

This...

This is a terrible OP offer. I love Galchenyuk and he is probably untouchable, but a combo of Virtanen/Horvat/Shinkaruk/picks etc... would probably get the conversation started.

Eller does have value and will be an NHL'er for the rest of his career. People put too much stock in prospects and their ceilings and de-value guys that have proven to be a valuable asset in the league already. He is a great 3C and can play on the top two lines if needed and that's a lot more valuable than people think. I wouldn't be against moving him for a top 6 winger though (seeing as we have Plek/DD/Galch at C, one will have to move eventually).

Sorry got kind of off topic. Habs prospect pool has more depth, but Van has the better top end guys (Jensen, Horvat, Shinkaruk, Gaunce, Virtanen).
