The Poughkeepsie area is being more and more infiltrated by the bad city drivers. Westchester is too expensive, so it's getting mad crowded up here in certain areas of Potown, Fishkill, etc. Therefore, Poughkeepsie is the ending point for downstate!

You'll also know it's upstate when you see Indian names for things...

Well being an Albanite myself, we are definetly upstate considering we are an hour from the Adirondacks. "Downstate" for me starts in Poughkeepsie with the metro north train. (Thats how I usually get to nyc)

Anything north of Westchester is upstate.

Case closed. Thread over.

Talk to someone from NYC/Long Island: Anything North of the Bronx is upstate

Talk to someone from southern Westchester: Anything North of Interstate 287 is upstate

Talk to someone from northern Westchester: Anything North of Westchester is upstate

Talk to someone from Dutchess: Anything north of Poughkeepsie

Talk to someone from Albany: Anything North of Albany

No one else can even make an arguement.

I hate ****ing Putnam simply because even though I don't live there, I end up getting their lame local commercials. Booooooo!

It depends what part of Putnam. The beginning of Putnam like Mahopac is thrown in with Westchester I guess. Everything else is basically Dutchess .

exactly. I'd say Southwestern CT is really more downstate New York than it is Connecticut or New England.

The way I see it is that if you've got a Metro North stop around you then there's gotta be enough commuters to demand it. If you have that many daily commuters then you're definetly within the NYC sphere of influence.

Being from Colonie(which is just north of Albany and actually has more population than Smallbany), I say that anything north of westchester is upstate. Up until you get past saratoga. Then its the adirondacks. Plattsburgh isn't part of either because its SO far up there.

Isn't upstate New York just considered Canada?

No, it melted very fast because we had a sudden warm spell. And you are right, upstate NY is the REAL NY. But screw the Sabres and Bills

There's one great thing about living in upstate, you are between like 30 sports teams so you have your pick of the litter.

which is how i ended up being a Jets-Leafs-River Rats fan.

Yeah. Geographically I should be a Senators fan, but I've always been a fan of the Giants and Rangers.

Friend of my boyfriends cell phone# is one digit off of Captain Orange's offices phone number, even though his voice mail is a casual "Hey this is matt, leave a message." somehow he always gets complaining citizens leaving voice mails screaming about their issues. Happens all the time. To the point where the kid had to notify the police of a bomb threat.

rifk! that is absolutely great. "you have 50 voicemails"

that would suck and be great at the same time.

But back to the topic....

we need to drag in the isles and sabres fans into this. we need statewide input.
