But back to the topic....

we need to drag in the isles and sabres fans into this. we need statewide input.
Personally I think the City of Albany should take tax payer money and reimburse his cell phone bills cause their citizens are too brain dead to figure out they dialed the wrong number.

Im from Long Island.. but dont hold it against me...

There are several major points.

Long Island ( which doesnt include Brooklyn and Queens)

NYC - all 5 boroughs

Jersey - self explanatory

Westchester- self explanatory

and upstate = everything north of westchester.

I think upstate means NORTHERN NY--not western NY.

if you are going upstate then you are referring to Albany.. lake george.. etc.

if you are going to western NY---you are going to buffalo, rochester.. etc.

Has anyone ever stopped at the Memories antique store? With their highway sign advertising you'd think you were approaching South of the Border in the South Carolina. I've passed it a hundred times but have never gone in.

Here's how I see it: North of Yankee Stadium is upstate. North of the Bronx-Westchester line is the boondocks. North of the Tappan Zee Bridge is Canada!!!!!

Being a Long Islander (and an Isles fan), I would say that Rockland county is the last downstate part. Anything above there, I consider to be upstate

The only catch is that when you're driving through the barren wasteland on route 17 where each exit is 5 miles apart, Roscoe Diner serves as a beacon of hope for students heading to Binghamton, Syracuse, Ithaca, Rochester, or Buffalo.

I think the interstate is a better route to go north.
Not sure what's up there though, only been up there a couple of times for hockey games when we killed Shenendahoah and Shaker/Colonie in high school en route to getting murdered in the state finals by Salmon River.

buffalo, rochester, etc are western new york... really nothing like upstate new york, if you've ever been to both. i suppose you could also refer to it as part of ontario, but the upstate label just really doesn't fit out west.

all upstate...and really, combine all three plus buffalo as far as people going there and i am sure it is still 1/4 of the amount of people that go to nyc. hence not it's own category
