Just think, about 1 year ago people thought he'd never make it as an AHL defenseman. Now people are happy he resigned as an NHL defenseman.

$1 million? per season? I'll bet it's around $1.2M/2 years.

I think this shows that Pck doesn't think he's as good as a lot of you do.

josh thomson from rangers.lohud.blogs
"I asked the Rangers whether or not Thomas Pock signed a contract extension and was told he had not. If I hear anything else today ..."

therefore about the credibility:
its in all austrian newspapers (referenced on a report of apa, thats the biggest austrian news agency)

+ he is quoted in an interview for sport1.at (thats a popular sport site)
„Ich bleibe in New York und habe fr zwei weitere Jahre bei den Rangers unterschrieben.“
"I'll stay in New York and i have signed for another two years with the Rangers."

+ its on the official site of the austrian hockey association.

Tootin,

My point is be that mgt might even adopt this policy through the summer, depending on what happens in the POs.

I'm not necessarily agreeing with it, but if this D continues to play the way it has been, and the NYR make some noise, I can definitely see the current D corps returning, with Staal going to, and Baranka staying in, HFD.

I really think that with more seasoning Pock is going to be a really good offensive D-man. I love the way he carries the puck through the neutral zone effortlessly, and his defensive game has not been bad at all. I wish he would shoot more, he has an awesome shot.

Sport1 is not very reliable, but it was a direct quote from him in the article. Should be legit.

That is a strong possibility, I agree.

He's a smarter defenceman than what we have, he's better at the point than any option that we have or have had since Brian Leetch 5-6 years ago.

Defensively he's not great, but I wouldn't label him any worse than the motley crew we have right now.
malik is what, a +2142141215215 for his career? do you think HE is a good defenseman?

I personally wouldn't put him back in.

I personally wouldn't put him back in. Pock has earned the job.

I think Renney will treat it like the Weekes/Valiquette situation. Rachunek won't come in when he's "game ready", but he'll replace Pck if/when he shows he can out-perform him.

Mara would help his game out.

That's a good signing - it gives an NHL-ready 7th defenseman - be it Pock or Rachunek (if he's qualified). It also shows that Liffiton and Baranka are staying in HFD next season, but it gives us great flexibility at the trade deadline. Like Rangerboy says, Rachunek most likely would get qualified for 1 year. We'd have 3 FA defensemen at the next year's trade deadline. Out go 2, and we'd have Baranka and Pock take the regular spots for the rest of the next season, and with the departure of the 3rd FA defenseman, Staal would be ready to step in in October of 2008. And the transformation of our defense into completely homegrown (with the exception of Mara) would be complete.

Having carved himself a niche on the Rangers' blue line while also becoming convinced that he's a part of the team's future plans, D Thomas Pock recently agreed to a two-year contract that will pay him $650,000 next season and $685,000 in 2008-09.

i like this move

rozsival-malik
tyutin-girardi
mara-rachunek

pock 7man
plus staal to compete for a job in training camp

thats the best our defense has looked to start a season in quite some time and the fact that there aren't going to be any changes allows these guys to really develop chemistry

if staal earns a job, which he should look for malik or maybe rachunek to be dealt

I've always liked pock and im glad he will be back

A right-handed, under-30, 2nd pairing, puck-moving D-man like Rachunek would fetch a second round pick in this draft.
