I'd think their pretty good. They really couldn't have asked for much more from him this year

Its been made pretty clear that Shanahan asks to be put on the PK because it helps him get into the flow of the game. That has been said several times during games now.

Agree at first glance it makes no sense, but after that came out, it is very understandable. Shanny was looking like a waste out there until he started playing on the penalty kill again.

Do you spend $4M on a PK guy??

Now, do you spend $4M on a PK guy that brings 25/35/60 and damn good leadership?

I would....

no you don't spend 4m on that guy...not when he is going to be 39...

can we please stop with the leadership myth....

the guy was non-existant after the first two months of the season...the rangers played there BEST hockey when he wasn't in the lineup...is that enough to de-bunk the shanny leadership myth..

so many rangers fans think of shanny as a friend like they know the friggin guy... the guy played one slightly above average season season for the rangers...ONE!!!

The Rangers can spend 4M on another area of need...not a 39 year old who has trouble scoring at even strength..especially after whats the holiday...oh yeah THANKSGIVING!!!

I know his penalty kiling minutes are going to come up but he looked tired at the end of last season with detroit when he played less time...look at his playoff numbers last season...

I'd offer shanny 2million hope he takes it along with a vastly reduced role and if he balked i'd say see ya...

this isn't mark messier here...this isn't a Rangers legend that is owed something....

with all that being said i think shanny is coming back...I think the Rangers are going to make that mistake...

talk about a F'in no-brainer!!!

The guy just oozes class and leadership, was named the 2nd most respected NHLER amoung a pool of his peers behind Joe Sakic for a reason and at the end of the day he's still a damn fine player to boot.

The guy had no center all year and still doesn't and he's been a PAG player with 29 goals while having missed a month+.

The guy loves being a NYR and he seems willing to do the one year at a time deals where you can't measure how valuable that flexibility provides in todays cap world.

As somebody mentioned above, you know this guy is the main reason that Avery has been able to reel it in and become such an effective player.

I'd give him the same 1 yrs 4 million he got this year.

"You can see it when you listen to him in the dressing room - it's great when he's here," said Jaromir Jagr, the Rangers' captain who readily yields the floor to Shanahan. "Of course, somebody has to score goals. But he makes sure we play the right style when we have a lead - those kind of simple plays that I don't even like to play.

how many two goal leads did the rangers blow this year?
its a great quote by the CAPTAIN but either nobody cares what shanny says (not likely) or his leadership is overstatef and overrated..

Wasn't most of those 2-0 blown leads with Shanahan out of the lineup?
