Bob Gainey: "Rangers will go far in the playoffs"

Habs GM Bob Gainey had a press conference today and was asked why the canadiens didnt show up in the game vs NYR last week.

Bob said he thought it was more the Rangers great play then the habs not showing up. He said the Rangers RARELY make any mistakes. He said that in the game 2 weeks ago when the habs scored 5 goals in the 2nd period, in the 1st period rangers never made a mistake. They scored 2 goals and deserved the lead.

He said he thinks people will see how good the rangers are in the playoffs.

Just thought I'd let you guys know.

Good to see a rival GM say good things about our team when his team missed the playoffs. Im shocked that the Habs missed it. I thought they would beat the Islanders for the 8th spot. But glad to see all NY teams in the playoffs and 4 out of 5 Atlantic Division teams make it.

I agree, I kind of liked it when everyone picked us to finish 30th last year and a month ago gave us little chance to make it. Delepenia (SP?)/fishler, and not sure of their names but the guys on XM at noon picked us, just to mention a few.

There were more, they were interviewing GM's and reporters on XM and most had the Rangers winning.

Had the Rangers winning the Cup? Or the series against Atlanta?

In other words, are you saying that more than 50% of GMs and reporters interviewed on XM had the Rangers taking the Cup?!?!?!

Yeah on NHL live this morning majority of picks were Rangers in Six.

(Then some hick called in from ATL that I couldn't understand a word of his redneck chatter.)

What else is Gainey going to say?

If that's the game the press up there is focusing on then that's a tougher place to play then i thought...

well, i mentioned this over on my blog. the game against the habs the rangers played almost flawless defensive hockey. they were so well prepared for the habs attack, i practically gave renney an extension just for that 1 game. he definitely did his job in that one.

Seriously, though, I'm really disappointed that the Habs didn't make the playoffs. They're my second-favourite team and I think a Habs-Sabres series would have been a lot of fun to watch.
