(HF Story) Interview with Eddie Caron

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article...readed&order=0

This one was a long time coming and in the works for several months. For some reason we just never hooked up until last week.

Eddie's a very good speaker, extremely enthusiastic too. He definitely has bigger plans than just hockey if it should happen that his hockey days don't take off after College, but I think he really want to turn things around for himself on the ice too.

Amazing pre-college stats... hasn't had much success at the college level but finally seems to be concentrating on it more. Great comment by Bob Mancini I thought.

Put your comments in this thread.

Sounds like a very bright kid

with minimal interest in playing hockey for a living.

Considering how high he went I think this pick has the potential to go up there with past flubs like The Firefighter, ie Allison wasn't it?

Terrific interview, Guy. It's nice to hear his side of it, and get some insight into his personality. The scout you mentioned made some great comments too.

I've been waiting to here about Caron for a long time. His love in for Higgins is a little creepy but otherwise he sounds like a realist who knows his chance of playing pro hockey isn't high.

I don't know how you can question his passion for hockey, he practiced for over a year without playing, sounds like he's working on what the Oilers want him to and he's pumped for this years summer camp.

I was glad to here the comment from Mancini. You can tell Ed feels the pressure of the high pick and its nice to know the Oilers are trying to mitigate that pressure. If Ed can pick up the pace offensively I think we can expect some sort of impact from him, if not, maybe he can still be a bottom six Mike Grier type player.

Another outstanding interview Guy! While I'm inclined to give the kid a hard time about his tranfer/eligibility fiasco, hands up if you didn't do stupid stuff when you were at that stage. Hopefully he'll put his game together soon.

Agreed on the stupid stuff:)

But maybe the onus falls on the Oilers for using a higher pick on him. I can't blame the guy for wanting to focus on his academics. Better chance he'll be successful in the world of finance than in the world of pro hockey.

But it's up to the Oilers to grill guys and let's face it, if you're taking US HS phenoms, you want them going to schools like Michigan and State and so on.

I found the Higgins infatuation odd too.

Thank you GuyF, i took a while to say thanks but i was probably one of the most interested peoiple in getting the story on Caron, hence why i listed 10+ ?'s for you to ask. Anyway, its great to hear about him, when i saw him he didn't impress but he is big and pretty fast, and he's definitely rusty hopefully that will change and we can get a good look at him in the prospects camp this summer....Now if only we can acquire Higgins from Montreal...that'd be great, not even to pair with Caron, just to have in our stable...

There's nothing wrong with New Hampshire Matts, It's a top ten school for Hockey. Ty Conklin is one Oiler who played there and he's told me that he keeps in contact with the staff still.

Guy:

Excellent interview....but you forgot to ask him two questions:

1) Why didn't get a part in Miracle (you do know that he did audition and came very close to actually being in the movie, right?)

2) What was up with him playing w/o a blade on his twig in the game versus UMass recently?

No, I didn't know that one! That would have been great to ask him about but I hadn't heard that one. DANG!

Well, when you follow the NCAA the way I do, you find these things out. All you have to do is ask, dear.

Trust me, doesn't work.

When I try that, my wife just yells 'WOO HOO! LIFE INSURANCE!' and gets out the kerosene.

You might want to check for a wig...my wife has 3 brothers, no sister.
