Whatever they do, I want Trotz to have a quick hook on Tootoo in this series if the refs have it out for him, or if he does anything undisciplined. They need to maximize the amount of even strength minutes as much as possible against San Jose.
For any that are interested, 104.5 will interrupt PacmanFest 2007 during the 10AM hour and have an NHL playoff preview show with Eli Gold and Jim Mckenzie.
Big game. I really think we need to take the first two games in order to have a chance in this series. We struggle in the Tank (yes I know we won there this season, in the shoot-out) so we could be looking at the same situation as last season if we lose one of the first two at home.
Again, I think some of the major factors for us are:
1: Coaching - Does Trotz have what it takes to take this team to the next level or is he still just a good expansion coach. Will he make adjustments which help us win or will he stick to a style when the other team dictates the play? (and by adjustments, I don't mean Terry Crisp lacing up to play with Leahy and Forsberg). Can he help turn around the trend of the Predators basically playing .500 hockey since the All Star break?
2: Special Teams - We all know about the matchup of the Sharks lethal Power Play and our effective Penalty Kill. But our Power Play is going to be a huge factor as well. We MUST take advantage of any Shark penalties. We've been mediocre on the Power Play all season long; they must step it up on the Power Play to bury any chance we get, especially in crucial moments like when we are tied or down a goal. Last year, San Jose got huge goals on the power play, often game winners.
3: Big guys stepping up - We've all talked about the need for name brand players. We need our big named guys to step it up a notch and prove their worth. The regular season means nothing now. Lets see if Forsberg, Kariya, Arnott, Dumont and company can step it up.
4: Goaltending - Vokoun has to step his play up (kind on par with part 3 above). We can't have shaky goals at bad times of the game. Vokoun needs to remain sharp and prove that he's worth his contract. Luckily, I feel much more comfortable with Chris Mason should we have to use Mason again this offseason.
5: Play a complete game - Often times this season we've played a bad period which helped the other team win the game or steal a point. We can't have lapses in play. We need to come out strong and finish strong.
I'm excited the playoffs are here; its the best time of the season. I can't wait to see the puck drop. Lets see if our team can turn around its recent play and turn it up for the playoffs. We'll need everything we can against the Sharks, as we all know, they're a fantastic team.
I think for the playoffs...we should go back to the "GDT until you lose" policy.
IE makes great looking GDTs...but they require a lot of copying and pasting. I'm superstitious...so it seems to me...if we get smacked around...and then just copy\paste that game's gdt and change some of the info...we're transferring a lot of bad mojo.
Man the Sharks have great forward depth. They have equally bad defensive depth.
I know we don't have the best D in the league, but to state that our D is the complete opposite of the amount of depth we have up front is ridiculous. We don't have the 3rd least amount of goals against in the league simply because of our goal tending.
