what was the thinking behind trading Dupuis?

This guy is a stud! Can you imagine Dupuis along with Avery......

What did we get for him? A bag of pucks?

Dupuis with Avery? We had it.

A bag of pucks? Hardly. They got a guy who became the third ranked (and top ranked forward) play in the organization.

http://hockeysfuture.com/prospects/alex_bourret

I like Dupuis but he's an UFA at the end of the season. He is also a redundant player with what the Rangers have.

And Bourret is going to be a really good player for this team.

We only got one of the best prospects in our system... if you care about that sort of thing.

We got him for a prospect. Since I don't really follow Hartford I don't know how good the prospect is. I think the thinking was that it would be better for the team's overall goal to have someone like prucha or callahan playing instead of him. That's just my thought.

Yeah, Bourret's been lighting it up for the Pack and he's NOT EVEN 21 & a former 1st Rounder, yeah I'd make that trade over and over again...

I don't neccesarily agree with that. I'd rather have Dupuis on the fourth line than Ortmeyer. He was redundant, however.

I don't think Dupuis would be an effective 4th line player.

He played great in just ONE GAME against us... Minnesota traded him away for a reason (Defensive Liability) and his offensive ability wasn't enough of a compensating factor...

To me, with the forwards the Rangers have on the team and in the system, Dupuis for Bourett was an excellent deal.

Basically Sather turned Adam Hall into Bourett. The kid can play and has some pretty solid potential.

The big point here is Dupuis is a UFA. Smart move trading him.

Minny traded him because he had a public falling-out with his coach. The last guy the Thrashers traded for because he and his coach were arguing was Marc Savard.

It'll be a few years before it's known who won this trade.

He didn't have a place on this team. He's not a fourth line player and doesn't have a place on our top 3 lines. He's no stud though, but Bourret might be!

My god! The trade we made with Atlanta was great and now that Dupuis had one good game against us, when he was probably pumped up on adrenalin thinking revenge, people are thinking he was some kind of a great player. Dupuis is the second coming of Cullen and we have a ton of people I'd rather have than him. Where would he play? Who would we not play? Callahan? Just remember this three years from now when Bourret is up here and Dupuis is flipping burgers.

Dupuis is a nice player, but he is made totally redundant by the presence of Matt Cullen on this team. They're both fast skaters with high energy, but Matt is a better point-getter and more consistent. Dupuis can look great some games, but can also have very little influence.

I'm glad that Dupuis is working out for the Thrashers (just not too much ), but Dupuis and a 3rd for Bourret is a trade I would make any day.

You're right, he was in Lemaire's doghouse, but that's not to suggest he's some sort of lockerroom problem-child.

Honestly, though, for the Rangers to lose out in this deal, Bourret would have to seriously crash and burn or the Thrashers would have to choose some great talent with that 3rd rounder.

Good player....better than Hall for sure but realisticly Where does he play? and who sits?

Trading a third 4th liner for a teams top prospect is a pretty good move imo.

The idea is that Bourret will blossom under Jimmys coaching in Hartford and from what I've heard we've already seen some great play out of that kid. He's contributed and he's still the youngest player in the AHL?

This one Time will have to tell if Bourret is the real deal.

Even if Bourret tanks, this was a deal that had to be made. When someone offers you a highly touted prospect (even if they were a bit down on him) for a depth player you have to make that trade.
Yeah, it would have been nice to have kept Dupuis, if for nothing else the speed that he brought to the lineup, but he is at best a third liner.
I don't know who approached who on this deal, but if Atlanta asked what the Rangers wanted for Dupuis, and Sather/Maloney said Bourret, and Atlanta agreed I'm sure Sather/Maloney must have worked hard to keep from laughing.
I have a real good feeling about Bourret.....I know Rick Middleton was already an established young player with the Rangers and Ken Hodge had been an all-star so the analogy doesn't work hold, but that what Dupuis for Bourret reminds me of.

Don Maloney told brother Dave last night between the first and second period that the Rangers have five forwards in HFD who could help the Rangers right now.He mentioned two of the five-Nigel Dawes and Brandon Dubinsky.Alex Bourett could one of those five
