Hedberg in for Game 2?

From the HF user littleD:

Hedberg to start game 2 for Atlanta.

Source: Jeff Odgers(Thrashers radio commentary), currently on Fan 590 with Kypreos and Millard.

Quote:
I’ll blog more later, but Bob Hartley said today that Johan Hedberg would get the nod in goal for game two over Kari Lehtonen. Hedberg is excited to go, but Lehtonen is obviously disappointed by the decision. I asked him if he was surprised, and he said he was. Actually, his answer was “You were too.” And I was.

That is absolutely ridiculous. Lehtonen should ask for a trade.

That would be a very bad move by the Thrashers. I can't believe this is true.

i dont remember who but a poster from the atlanta boards said that he had read somewhere that lehtonen cannot for one reason or another play back to back games
(3 and 4 at the garden are back to back)

so if hedberg is to start and if that poster was right we should see hedberg twice in this series which im loving

my oh my this is something that needs to be taken advantage of. He needs to be peppered with shots early.

I don't see Thrashers winning with Hedburg in goal. Lehtonen is money when he's on his game.

Doesnt matter who is in net, the Rangers need to keep the pucks on net regaurdless who it is. Although I will say that Moose will probably be a little rusty which should help the Rangers. Either way, Lets Go Rangers!!

Just a coach trying to rally his team..Hedberg has played well in the playoffs before and maybe they catch lighting in a bottle with him...

It's not like Lehtonen looked that great to begin with....

The only thing I'm surprised about is how early Hartley is going to Hedberg...It shows you how important the Thrashers feel game 2 is for them...The Rangers better be prepared for this game..Don't be happy with the split....Take 2 games and go back to New York...

Lehtonen did not have a good game but he is a fine young goaltender. I don't know if Atlanta should pull the plug on him so soon. It seems to me you go with your best. As for Hedberg he's no slouch. He's a battler. That's why he's done well in the playoffs before. Both teams will have to have better performances (and not just in goal) to come out of this series.

Odgers couldn't understand the thinking behind the potential change in goal.Is Hartley upset with Lehtonen's play or is he trying to get his players attention? Is Hartley playing mind games with the Rangers?

WELL you can bet the NYR gameplan will be to pepper the net with LOTS OF SHOTS and try to rattle Hedberg. Obviously Let em Im is already rattled. If not from game 1, from his coaches odd choice to give up on him so soon. Thrashers lose game 2 and you have a goalie contoversy , and an odd one at that.

A risky mover on the Psyche of a team

It's official

From the AJC

Quote:
The decision took Kari Lehtonen by surprise.

Coach Bob Hartley has decided to start John Hedberg in goal for the Thrashers in Saturday's Game 2 of their best-of-seven first-round series. Hartley informed Lehtonen of the decision this morning, only hours after the Thrashers fell to the Rangers 4-3 in Game 1

Does everyone forget how Hedberg owned us in March in Atlanta. We lost in Overtime 2-1.

That was then...this is now.

Let em In didnt lose that game for the Thrashers last night. Rangers dominated the play.

Will Hedberg rise to the occassion, of better yet will his team?

Or do they go down 2-0 and puzzle over what to do next?

Might say one thing today (Hedberg), try and play "mind games" and then start Kari regardless of what he said.

So do we now have to debate endlessly with the Trasher fans over who is the better goaltender between Hedberg and Henrik

Quite the panic move after 1 game. Not going to help Lehtonin's confidence. Say the Rangers beat Hedberg in game 2, where does Hartley go from there? If anything this puts even more pressure on Atlanta to win game 2.

This really is a very questionable move by Hartley, but even if Hedberg comes in and plays lights out, I don't understand why he would deal out this blow to his young star goaltender's confidence/ego.

His team played a poor defensive game, and aside from Nylander's goal I would say that Lehtonen actually played fairly well. Have the Thrashers historically played a tighter game in front of Moose? I really don't see the logic at all, but it wouldn't shock me to see Hedberg come in and play an amazing game.

You're underrating Hedberg, I consider him one of the best backup goaltenders in the league. He had great success in Pittsburgh.

In fact, if I was Toronto, I would chase someone like Hedberg to be in goal next season instead of Raycroft.
