I was waiting for the post from Replacement explaining why investment in this city has a result of the rink is somehow a bad thing.

Given our affluence as a province and as a city I think a reasonable question can be asked about why more investment isn't local.

Indeed thinking in Norway, and belief in the importance of national industries there would be the direct opposite level of thought that occurs here.

Norwegians are not taking their resources for granted. They realize depletion of non renewable resource is something facing their children. To that end they are committed to retaining the most assets possible from their development and exploitation of natural resources and are diversifying their economy as much as possible. That level of longterm thinking doesn't even occur here and won't as long as the gravy train is running.
You know Replacement, you're right to a degree. My business acumen is on par with bozo the clown's, but here is my viewpoint to you.

Maybe instead of criticizing the people that actually put the money up to get this started, and the investors that are from Calgary and Toronto who have invested in multi million dollar structures to round out the District, perhaps you should direct your ire at the local businessmen who do not seem to have a grasp on what this project could do for the city.

But I don't know if you can do that either, because I'm not aware of what local investors are actually doing. The one thing I do see is that there are a couple of business's and members of certain groups and political entities that are doing anything they can to protect their own current interests without even a single thought going on for what may be achievable for the future.

That's how I see it anyways. They sit around and complain while the National and Multinational investors are realizing the potential of this project.

Start questioning the dullards that aren't boning up the cash to make a difference.

That's good. Thanks for the reference.

Like I said, didn't know if I could because I'm not aware of all the details.

Thanks for that.

I haven't been able to get the Time Lapse view up for a few days. Anyone else having problems with it? I simply get a message that the operation has timed out.

I don't even look at the camera. prefer to see it once in a while when I drive by. makes it seem like construction is going faster.

Sounds like a big announcement coming tomorrow regarding the EAD, most likely to do with the Stantec tower. Can't wait to see the renderings and how tall this baby will be. An announcement on the hotel would be sweet too.

Agreed!

There is more local investment in the core than most give credit.. and there will be more to come.

You will also always notice its the same people that complain no matter what direction the core goes.

Nice! Thanks for sharing.

Yup.. if Stantec's new tower is indeed mixed use, it will be much higher than what was originally proposed! Perhaps the next tallest tower in our core!

I'm pretty sure the design for the Stantec tower will be what is released this week.

If the Stantec proposal is supposed to be mixed-used tower, then hopefully it'll be 50+ stories.. but i'm really hoping for 60! Just imagine what a 55-60 storey tower could do for our skyline.

Oh I know, wouldn't stick out for long though. I suspect there will be some other ones eventually.

Love the big towers!

Hopefully we get a bar in this mixed tower on a higher floor (love bars/clubs in high rises )

As a younger guy, its safe to say Calgary has a much better downtown, hopefully Edmonton catches up soon

What exactly needs to get done before the winter? I know little of construction but hopefully they can continue to make progress during the winter.
