Boivin said the Habs had the funds next season to go after a super star. Any posibility that if they can't land a UFA that they would go after a RFA?
I know it's less common, but with the Habs having a a few long term RFA themselves, couldn't that be a posibility?
With Ryder, Plekanec, Higgins, Perezhogin, Latendresse, Kostitisyn, Lapierre and Grabovski up front to built on, with the possiblity of Chipchura and D'agostini playing a few games, Wouldn't it be advantageous for the Habs to trade those few extra pick next draft, one or two of the above players and maybe a goalie "Danis or Halak" for a real bonified super star?
I know there are players that may be available lile Gomez and Selanne (who will be like 36) but there are also players like Ovechkin we'll have to wait another year, Mikko Koivu (mikko may not be a super star but would truly inspire Saku) or even Vanek who is doing really well if they can't land an UFA? If the Habs Trade for a player who will become a RFA like Ovechkin, would that team get compensated for it or is it only if the Habs sign a player when he becomes available?
If they can't find an UFA or RFA this summer I can see Tampa maybe trading one of their big 3, this summer, to make cap room. I'd like to see Richards with the Habs if Tampa thinks they can part with him.
Atlanta also has a lot of contracts to sign this summer and Vyacheslav Kozlov will be available. Karia would be nice.. Peca is a good fit for the Gainey/Carbonneau system. He shouldn't break the bank either. I can't really see any other UFA that the Habs could go for except for Briere (which everyone has mentioned a million time already) that could be considered a Super star.. Lang? Tkachuk?
It's your last chance to get Selanne before he gets too old. I can't see the habs trying to bring in much on D if Markov and Souray move. Poti maybe? I guess they really need to keep these guys!!
