9 straight hits and Price is done. That was absolutely incredible.

I'm pretty sure Shane Greene is making a strong case to be a lock for next years rotation, and its not like he's doing this vs bad teams.. power arm with strikeout stuff.

And, he already had Tommy John in college, glad he got that out of the way already.

Great game, but why did I see Betances throw 20 pitches in a 5 run game when we have a day game tomorrow!?

You do know that some pitchers have multiple TJ surgeries, right?

I really do not see the need in signing a Lester/Shields/Scherzer type. Pitching is not where the money should be spent. They desperately need a SS/2B and RF because Drew and Ichiro won't cut it.

Tanaka
Kuroda
Nova
Pineda
Greene
Nova
Sabathia
McCarthy
Phelps

Oh I agree they have plenty of potential pitching, and if this season is any indication, the pitching won't be a problem.. Remember though, Yanks will have quite a bit of money coming off the books again (even with Alex returning). I think they see Lester as an Andy Pettitte type (but better) and they would love to have that.

They will absolutely need a SS, I wonder if Refsnyder finally gets a chance to play 2B for them, and I'm sure they are thinking with Beltran getting that bone spur surgery after the season is over he will play alot of RF next year and be better.

Do they really have a lot coming off the books though? Kuroda and Jeter are the big ones coming off at 28 million combined, but with Arod back at 21 and Gardner's extension raising him from 5.6 to 13 that wipes out that savings.

Then you got McCarthy, Headley, Drew, Ichiro, and Robertson as the other free agents. Will be interesting to see if they qualify Robertson or extend him? Have to imagine if McCarthy will be back at a reasonable price if he finishes the season healthy, and pitching well, but he might want to test the market, could see him going to Boston.

With Prado here and Arod back don't think Headley will be back, Ichiro is a nice savings, and I do think Drew is going to be back, even if he has not hit well at all, hopefully that can be a big savings.

I'm not sure, but the Yankees payroll this season is 203M, (It's gone as high as 220M before), the payroll with Alex returning and Gardner/Prado signed for next season is 169M, so that leaves something like 34M to equal this year's payroll. So it will be something like 34-51M (highest 220M number they've gone too before), to spend this off season, and really as far as position players go, there's really nothing good to spend it on..

I wouldn't be opposed to an infield next year of Prado/Drew/Refsnyder/Tex/Mccann unless they can acquire a better SS via trade.

The Mets were offered "high end AA prospects" in July for Colon.

http://metsblog.com/metsblog/latest-on-bartolo-colon/

Why didn't they take that? I believe in Sandy, because of the previous trades with Beltran, Dickey, and Byrd where I feel he got supreme value. But, Colon is a fat 40 year old with a low-ish ERA because he plays in Citi Field who still gives up homers.

3.04 ERA at home
4.48 ERA on road

Sell, sell, sell

Two back of Seattle in the loss column with a month left.

31 games left. I think 20-11 gets it done. Not a lot of off days so the starters need to go deep in games.

If they make the playoffs it will probably be Cashman's best job as GM in terms of single season.

Personally, I don't think they make it.

I don't think they make it either, but hell I didn't think they would even be playing meaningful baseball in September either, so who knows.

Betances and Robertson haven't pitched since the year of the flood. Why does Betances go one inning? Why do we lose a game we absolutely need with Shawn Kelly on the mound?

because he threw 24 pitches last night when the Yankees had a 5 run lead in the 9th inning.

"You can't use your closer on the road in a tied game"...

Nope, not even if you're needing to win every game.

Nope, not even if it's game 7 of the World series.

The invention of the save statistic may be the worst thing to ever happen to the managerial decision making process.

To be honest, I kinda turned that one off last night. I figured Girardi could handle an 8-0 lead. Silly ****ing me

I'd rather use my closer in a crucial tie game and take the risk with a 2nd tier pitcher closing the game when I'm ahead.

Herrera called up from AA. WHAT?! That's awesome but so unexpected seeing how the Mets have handled their prospects.

Talked to guy in Boise tonight, said Montero threw ice cream on Mariners crosschecker, spit on him and threatened with a bat in front row.
This trade is ending up more and more a steal for the Yankees
