From the games I've seen, van Diems on the American squad has made the defenders and opposing forwards look like children, though he may not be at the top of the score sheet.

I'll tell you who hasn't. Esposito. He turned the puck over more than I would have in the semis, and rarely looked dangerous.

I think Espo could really fall.

Van Riemsdyk has looked very good for the US. Two guys who have stood out in the games I've seen, and are at least as good as the 2007 eligible guys are Steven Stamkos for Canada and Jordan Schroeder for the US. I'm still trying to figure out why there is so much hype around Turris. He's good, but didn't do much wowing, I think Gagner is probably a better player right now. Brandon Sutter will not be a scorer in the NHL. I don't imagine he'll crack the top 15, but he's a safe pick I suppose.

The USA have a lot of strong defensemen too. Ian Cole has been very good as has Cade Fairchild. Shattenkirk looks OK.

It's pretty obvious why the 2008 draft is regarded as being much stronger than this year's.

I think the top 10 will probably look like this based on this tournament and the seasons prior:

1. Patrick Kane
2. James VanRiemsdyk
3. Jakub Voracek
4. Kyle Turris
5. Karl Anzner
6. Alexei Cherepanov
7. Sam Gagner
8. Logan Couture
9. Keaton Ellerby
10. Alex Plante

From team Russia it's a Voinov - he was youngest player at WJC and he is one of the youngest here but already a good defenceman from my point of view.. Cherepanov and Filatov are other nominees but Filatov's mistake cost us a goal against Canadaand he's also trying to stickhandle too much while Cherapnov had a slow start.

Colton Gillies

We will all see Colton go in the TOp 10. He is as close to an NHL player this tourny has. Does he rack it up pts wise? NO! Does he blow anyone away with individuality? NO! Is he a smooth skating, hard hitter with offensive upside? YES!!! TOP PICK...He is good. SHould've been used more and the Canadians would've won.

Actually, considering that vanRiemsdyk is tied for second in the tournament in scoring, I would say he is doing just fine on the scoresheet. But I agree with you, he has been a beast, and I think he could very well help his draft standing with this tourney.

I have to say that I expected more from Turris too. He has played reasonably well, but he hasn't been the force that he has been hyped up to be on these boards. His thin frame has been knocked around a bit, and I expected better production from him. Although he has 5 points in 5 games, 4 of those points came in a 9-1 blowout of Latvia, and 3 of those 4 points came after Canada was already up 4 goals. That being said, I still think highly of Turris, but I definitely don't agree with the guys who anointed him as being far and away the best prospect in this draft.

Stamkos has been great. If the tournament ended today, I would go with vanRiemsdyk as the MVP, but Stamkos would be a pretty close second for me.

Overall, I still think Cherepanov is probably the top all-around player in this year's draft, but between him, Voracek, and Kane, it is awfully close.

Best looking in this upcoming draft (from who I've seen): James VanRiemsdyk

Most disappointing: Kyle Turris

That's not what the chief scout from ISS said to me when I talked to him. He hasnt wowed but hes been good, not shying away from physical play, showing his hands that are gold, playing good hockey.
