Wang:Isles can add a player

below's the link to a Newsday article that says while Wang's mandate of building with the cheap kids is still in effect, if the right deal comes along(Witt?),that MM can make a deal.

http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey...slanders-print

Charles Wang apparently has seen enough Islanders prospects go on to flourish elsewhere - this year's example is the breakout season Raffi Torres is having in Edmonton - so don't expect his team to be an aggressive buyer in the trade market this season. But that doesn't mean the Islanders' owner hasn't given general manager Mike Milbury a green light to shop around.

One potential candidate, Bob Boughner, was traded Friday to the Colorado Avalanche, who acquired the 6-foot, 203-pound veteran from the Carolina Hurricanes for prospect Chris Bahen and a third-round draft pick.

The Washington Capitals remain in fire-sale mode, and 6-1, 218-pound Brendan Witt, who makes $1.75 million and will be a restricted free agent after this season, could be had.

Milbury talked to Capitals GM George McPhee in December about a few players on the Capitals. One notable one, according to multiple league sources, was pending restricted free agent defenseman Sergei Gonchar ($3.65 million), an expensive but highly skilled power-play specialist. But McPhee's asking price was too high for a player who would be, at best, a rental.

"at best, a rental"

SPIN CONTROL. Milbury knows he's out of it.

Witt is overrated, and because he's one of just 2 NHL defenseman the Caps have, they will ask much more for him than what he's actually worth.

out of it?Not sure what that refers to.

Wang's not firing MM.Isles have played the last 7 weeks without Parrish and almost 9 weeks without Yashin.

Habs 61 games-66 pts
Isles 60 games,66 pts
Sabres 61 games,63 pts

Getting a physical blueliner is not a new idea.about 6 weeks ago Fischler wrote the isles wanted Anaheim's 24 yr old Vish. The new info is that Wang's saying he'll ok the right deal.

The surprising thing was reading that they asked about Gonchar.Isles need a crease clearer more then another offensive d-man.

I'd guess Vish would be their first choice.Very young at,still yrs away from unrestricted free agency.Too bad for the isles that his plays pick up and the Ducks don't look like they want to move him .

I'd be very happy with a Niinimaa for Vish exchange.

Not out of the playoffs. Perhaps means out of the running in the trade market as the main contenders will outpay Made Mike for a good D.

while Vish is my first choice, my next two come from the same team, would love either Carney or Salei.

I agree Wang saying he wants to hold onto his young talent, while sellers are asking for young talent doesn't sound too encouraging, but I'd think it would depend on which d-man the isles were getting.

Isles have shown interest in Witt( 27 yrs old) and Vish(24 yrs old),still young players, yrs from unrestricted free agency and fat paydays.Easier to give up young talent if they know the players they're getting will be affordable to them for several yrs.
