Single season save record

Alright, here is a little trivia for you. What is the all time record for saves in a single season by a goaltender? In resent years, Denis holds the record with 2172 saves. Luongo is on pace for over 2300. Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you, but is that the all time record or the most you can remember?

They have only officially kept records of saves for about 20 years, and this is the record as far as I know. I haven't seen a list of the best, I looked at the goalie section in Total Hockey, but there are only a handfull of goalies that have made over 2000+ saves in a season. There are probably unofficial records from before the early 80's but even at 35 shots a game you need to play well over 60 games to approach the record.

Well, it looks like Luongo is going to dominate that. Not that it is a good thing but at least he will have something to show for his great work and crappy defense.

Thanks again.

In The Hockey Compendium they have shot totals going back to 54-55, and they show Gump Worsley as having 2343 saves in 55-56.

I dont have any data, but Gilles Meloche used to routinely face 45 shots a night while playing for the California Seals in the mid-70s. I'd bet he would be on any list like that, but have no idea where to get that info.

As of right now, he is on pace for 2328 saves. Last night, they said that Luongo WAS on pace to break the record since the NHL started tracking saves.
