Boughner to the Avs

Well... JFJ seems to be sitting on his hands a little bit.

Not his fault he got hired by a team that cant afford to trade many draft picks because of trades made last year to try and improve a defence that still needs now what it did at this time last year.

I knew this type of thread would come up. You're kidding me, right?

Quit whining - Boughner is nothing special. A Marchment clone. a 5-6 Dman.

Not everyone traded has to come to Toronto

Boughner was useless to us.

He's a #5 defenceman. Plays about 15 mins and doesn't play special teams. Provides a lot of grit and physical play.

In other words he's Bryan Marchment.

We couldn't play both Marchment and Boughner in our top 6 at the same time, so Boughner would have had to replace Marchment.

Would you give up a prospect and a 3rd rounder to upgrade from Marchment to Boughner? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Boughner woulda been nice, but that's a pretty high price, I was thinking just a third, and not a prospect as well...oh well, I guess we're settling for Gonchar?

The dominoes are falling now with this trade.

I don't see all the hype around this guy.

He's a #5 at best... we have plenty of third pairing guys.

Boughner wouldn't be bad, a small improvement for Toronto but nothing substantial.
A third plus Bahen is a proposal I wouldn't have minded seeing Ferguson match given our depth in defensive prospects.

Not a player I'm going to lose sleep over losing, but he's probably the first trade that's passed by that I've thought would have been decent for Toronto.

We need difference makers, not Boughners

Big deal. Boughner did not need to be here and wasn't going to provide anything that Marchment doesn't already provide. He is only good for being physical. He would be behind Marchment on the depth chart.

Some questions....

Who would you have taken out of the top 6 to fit Boughner in? Who would you have paired him with? How much ice-time would you have given him?

I would slot Berg, Klee, McCabe, and Kaberle in ahead of Boughner making him our #5 D-Man.
Marchment as our #6, unless Berehowsky's play warrents further attention.
Pilar can be a healthy scratch as Marchment is better suited to clearing the net and intimidating forwards.

Ah well, purely hypothetical. Like I said, I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

You know Lacroix is going to swoop in and get Gonchar now.

Well he swooped in and got Sauer from Anaheim for Skoula.

It'd be kind of weird if he got 3 new d-man right before the playoffs. Maybe they're out of the Gonchar sweepstakes....

I would love to get Witt. He would be nearly the ideal pickup for Toronto IMHO.
Alas from all reports Washington wants to keep Witt, and isn't going to deal him unless someone way overpays for his services.

A much better pickup for Toronto then Gonchar would be.

I'd be satisfied if the only thing that happened at the deadline was us picking up Witt... I sincerely doubt he'll be moved though.

Better him then us IMHO. I don't see Lacroix chasing after a big name puck carrying D-Man though.
A guy like Sauer works better for them.
Less costly, and they've been lacking such a guy since Marchment left via UFA.

I think it is pretty safe to say that Colorado is out of the Gonchar sweepstakes. It sounds as though it is Buffalo, Toronto, New Jersey and perhaps Montreal in the game. Still lots of bidders.
