Ottawa vs. Calgary Game Thread 21/02/04

Well, this looks like a game for them to hopefully turn it back around after the Montreal game that didn't seem to go so well. The early game on CBC Hockeyday.

Anyone know if Loyns is going?

Hopefully they can pull this game out, the Sens are obviously a great team, but hopefully Sutter will have lit a fire under them after the last game. Tough next four games coming up, so at least a point here is important for starting the set.

Well this is the battle of me and my cousin. He's a Sens fan, shame neither of us'll get to watch it i guess, however I'm very hopeful we can pull out a win of somesort. I kinda hope Turek gets the start, because the Sens offence is very good, and he's stats are already crap, so it wouldn't matter if they were screwed even more.

I'm saying 5-4 OT win
Iggy 2, Donovan 1, Leopold 1, Oliwa 1 GO KRYZ!

I'll be watching the game with Zhackpot.

Should be interesting to see which team comes out with the most fire.

Sens blew a two goal third period lead last game losing in OT. Captain Alfredsson held a team meeting to discuss playing with more determination and fire this time of the year.

Flames coming off a poor showing against the Canadiens. Standings show the Flames six points back of the Canucks with two games in hand.

Should be a pretty high tempo game without the need for the rival chess game that develops when interconference points are on the line.

Sorry for not checking elsewhere, but would this be Bondra's 1st game w/ the Sens?

Yes, Lynn Loyns is dressed for today's game versus the Sens.

Yes, it Bondra's second game as a Senator.

The score is 1-1 after 1. Goal scorers are Leopold (Calgary) and Smolinski (Ottawa); both were powerplay markers.

I predict a 4-3 Flames victory, but I really think both teams have got to stay out of the penalty box in this game. Special teams certainly could be the difference.

GO FLAMES GO!

Wow, this is troubling...

After 2 periods of play Iginla has yet to register on the scoresheet in any way.

J. Iginla - 0 Shots, 0 Goals, 0 Assists, 0 Points, 0 PIM, EVEN +/-

I'm not watching the game, but I'm following it here and Iggy seems to be non-existant; is this a fair assessment? Or, is he playing well in the little things without showing up statistically?

I'm just wondering, because usually Iggy gets most of the shots and is always making things happen.

Sounds like a good game... keep up it up guys and pull off this win!

2-1 Final in favour of the Sens. Close game, but we just couldn't generate enough shots. Ottawa's defense seemed strong.

Iggy ended the game held completely off the scoresheet. Weird.

...Make it up next game guys, we need these invaluable points!

Ottawa's second goal was offside. Second assist to the linesman.

Well, Havlat had half of his skate blade on the line and I guess that's what the linesman was looking at

No, he crossed completely well before the puck did. General incompetence by the officials has cost many a team points, just throw this one on the pile.

That is what happends when Chara is matched against the top lines. He has been doing it all year against the top players like Kovalchuk and Thornton. Especially being his only game against chara, it would be difficult to understand how big and strong he really is

Welcome to life vs. Zdeno Chara, he does it to the best of them. This is why he will win the norris trophy this year.

"No, he crossed completely well before the puck did. General incompetence by the officials has cost many a team points, just throw this one on the pile."

Havlat crossed the line while the puck was in the air. Check the replay again because the puck never leaves the zone while in the air. It was tipped up just inside the line and then lands directly on the blueline. (Pay attention to the linesman when you watch the replay)

I think he was on-side personally...I generally do notice when people are off-side and stuff, but the puck was over the line first.

Iggy couldn't manage anything because Chara was all over him.

Quiet sort of game, the Sens just shut the Flames down completely and did what they had to do, kudos to them, they look great (as long as its not the last 5 minutes )

Without having seen the replay of the second goal, the first one was pretty stinky by any measure.

Yeah the first Flames goal was pretty weak..I liked the Sens first one tho...that's how you do a slapshot. The second goal was as pretty as they get.
