Pro Shops in NYC area?

I live in Staten Island, and go to school in the Bronx. I'm usually on the subway cutting through Manhattan going home for the weekends, so I ask, does anyone know of any half decent pro shops in NYC?

never been there myself but you might try the sky rink at chelsea piers. i know they have leagues, instruction, hockey lockers -- a decent program. so they're likely to also have a decent pro shop.

paragon sports on broadway between 16th/17th has a hockey department if you need the basics but noone there knows much about hockey and their selection is pretty limited.

there's also a rink in brooklyn called aviator sports. they might have a pro shop there.

good luck.

i would highly recommend West Side Skate & Stick. Out of all the shops I've been to in the area including Sports Plus Queens & Iceland, Iceworks, Play it Again, they were by far the most knowledgeable and helpful. The two guys that run the shop (I believe their names are Jim & Dave) really take the time to explain everything to you. At least thats been my experience.

They are located at 174 5th Ave, Suite 504. Prices are on the high side but it's the city.

welcome to the dumpster....nyc has very little in terms of hockey shops.

-you got wonderland in chelsea piers/ sky rink- decent selection...the store is small but they cram it full of equipment. for some reason the sticks/blades are 70-80 percent righty. its pretty expensive.

-cosby's in madison square garden. limited gear...a lot of jerseys and posters. they have some prehistoric roller hockey sticks to the far back left if you played in the mid 90s hay day- you will recognize the sticks. (titans, koho ultimates)

good luck

If you feel like venturing up into the "Boonies" up here in Westchester... Westchester Skating Acadamy in Elmsford (off Route 9A) and Brewster Ice Arena (off Exit 8 on I-684) in well... Brewster. In Connecticut there is Wesco Sports (somewhere off I-84 not sure where though) in Brookfield, but that's all probably too far north for you.

The one in Elmsford is actually pretty nice. They lay out all their sticks and stuff so you can pick em up and all that. Plus they have quite a bit of equipment. The one in Brewster only has wood sticks and a few composite out and a decent amount of equipment. I don't know how their prices compare though since I only buy my stuff online.
