4 of our 6 defensemen playing for their countries . I wouldn't be surprised if Kimmo joins his team soon as well.

Due to his hand/wrist injuries he has been battling for the past couple of months...I too doubt Kimmo will play in the World Championships. If healthy, I don't think he gives it too much thought before he gets on a plane overseas.

Link? I'd love to see Suter, but that would give the U.S. eight defensemen. Also, any word on Legwand?

It was in today's edition of the Tennessean. They only listed Suter (USA), Weber and Hamhuis (Canada), and Zidlicky (Czech Republic) as going to the World Championships.

Year-end meetings are Monday morning. Some players might still be intersted and make the decision Monday, but currently Legwand has not opted in.

Well I think USA has had eight defensemen in years past. Some coaches prefer depth on the blueline, I suppose. I had a feeling Suter would be involved because he's one USA Hockey's golden boys and he has great lineage.

The more I think about it, the more sense it makes since we're icing a pretty young blueline. If the Johnson's struggle, the other guys can pick up the slack (hopefully).

Mason is going to join team Canada.

PS. I hate how 50% of the time TSN screws up there stories about Nashville. Usually they mistake the Preds with the Blue Jackets or the Thrashers. Or they get the years mixed up, this time they have Mason starting all five playoff games for the Preds.

He did start all five playoff games in 2006 just not in 2007 .

Weber got 5 + a game misconduct against Germany. Definately an enormous hit, though against the head and his ellbow came up a bit as well.

It seems like every year the Canadian players are surprised that there is actually a penalty for hitting someone's head in international competition

Hörnqvist had two assists in Swedens 7-1 dismanteling of Italy. He could have scored a goal or two too with some luck, he had at least 5 shots on goal, a few went wide or blocked.

All in all he played very well in his World Championships debute, but keep in mind the opposition was pretty weak. Latvia and especially Switzerland will be better tests of his abilities.

Three game suspension for Weber. That blows.
