When did this love affair start with Lundy?

Anyone remember the game or series of games after the lockout? I know we all loved Richter but this is different kind of affection.

His first start when he lost in ot to the Devils, he made spectacular saves all game long and BAM after years of terrible goaltending the crowd had someone to stand behind.

Mine started (prematurely, sure. but there was nothing else to do during the lockout but think about the future) when people I know in Sweden from another board who were Frolunda fans kept telling me about what a special kid we had and hoped he wouldn't leave, and when I saw this:

there was two games, one in particular (I think against Atlanta) where the crowd was chanting his name and he acknowledged them by raising his glove between whistles. then he was named first star and took a lap around the ice.

that is the game I remember.

That was when I think a lot of Ranger fans realized he had a unique charisma about him.Throughout the lockout we kept hearing about how well he was playing in Sweeden. Then he came over here and proved he could play, but there was a special type of passion and emoition that Lundy shows throughout the game, that really got Ranger fans going crazy for him. And I believe that Atlanta game was one of the starting points.

Personally? Around 2004 I think, when I finally swallowed my homer goggles because he forced me to. For the crowd? When he came over, regurarly stood on his head, showed his passion and acknowledged the fans cheers and answered to them.

Richter brought us a Cup and was part of the organization for nearly 20 years. Despite his amazing play the last couple season and this year's playoffs, let's not go putting Lundqvist ahead of him...

He only said it was a diffrent kind of affection. I doesn't mean he meant Lundqvist > Richter.

Like the others have said, that game where he acknowledged the fans who were chanting his name. I'm pretty sure he had a shutout until the last 2 minutes, did it go in off of Kaspar? Everyone was nervous about him getting his first career shutout and after it was nixed the crowd showed their appreciation.

i definitely have to admit it was a hard sell for me with Lundqvist. I was such a huge Richter fan that it was really difficult for me to like another goalie. And considering between Mike and Hank the rangers have had more than a few sub-par goalies it was espically hard for me to take a liking to Hank. I would guess it was during the Olympics that I slowly realized he may be something special. he intensity and focus he showed during those games made me realize he was not going to be another bust like the other goalies that have tried to fill the crease since Richter.

But today my faith in Hank is solid. And I'd hate to say it but he might even outshine Richter in the long run.....sorry Mike.

yea pretty sure it was that game - a shutout last year early in the season (Oct?) and on a Saturday night?

I think that was the game where he was so pumped he swiped at the puck after the game and hit it in to the stands and went over to check and see if he hurt someone.

I became a fan when Weekes got hurt early on last season and he stepped in against the Devils and pulled out a 4-2 win I believe. After that I had an inkling that he was going to be a special guy for the Rangers, and not another temporary solution.

I put Lundqvist ahead of Richter before this season, realizing that he hasn't accomplished anything yet. I said it then and I'll repeat it now: He is the best Rangers goaltender I've ever seen, including going back to Eddie in his prime.

I was flamed for that opinion here before the season and don't care if I am flamed for it again now.

It was the Atlanta game on the Saturday night in October 2005..he had a couple of starts before that where he played well, but that shut out and him doing a lap around the ice won everyone over. I haven't looked back since that game.

Well I had heard about The KING, over one summer and did a little research on him and he sounded like a great goalie and I want the Rangers to sign him and I think I was thinking it the summer right before the lockout started. I was really excited when he was signed after the lockout and the love affair just continued.

I friggin love it... I get nervous whenever there's a shot on our goal and he's in net...

As far as Lundqvist, he has the MOJO that only the great ones possess.

For me it was the Crazzy shootout game with Washington last season when Malik won it with the trick shot in the 15th round.

Thats was just such a crazy fun night.
