Yeah, it's all good, so far 192 unknown people know how to rank the Greatest Franchises. Question is, what are they "really" basing it on? Take a look at "Best Defenseman"...surprised to see Potvin 10th. But it's all good since "Sparkly" the Dragon is ranked 5th on the Best Mascots list.
Message boards, MySpace, news and other information, and now...a site where we can rank everything...I think the Internet is officially complete.
Hope you don't mind me invading your forum, but was going through the hockey hall of fame three days ago, and me and my friend were just talking about how little respect the early '80's Islanders get... they had this fantastic team, and a true dynasty, but for whatever reason they do not get their due... even their players like bossy are not talked about with enough reverence.
((Still, I'd rank them slightly lower than the Oilers ))
At least we are in the top 10. We def deserve to be higher in the rankings because there aren't too many teams that can say they were a Dynasty and win 4 Cups in a row. I say, don't take this too much to heart guys. We should be used to getting the shaft anyway on these really meaningless rankings.
Completely depends on the criteria... In some ways we're probably one of the hardest teams to rank.... One of the greatest teams that has ever laced 'em up for about an 8 year period... arguably the greatest US-based franchise (between us and Detroit)... as well as a 14 year period w/o seeing the 2nd round... goofy jerseys... goofy owners.... goofy GM's.... empty arena... etc..
That being said... I certainly consider Montreal, Detroit and Edmonton (tailed off a bit- but never quite to the depths that we've gone to) as being w/o question above us... beyond that.... UNLESS I'm brain cramping... we're easily in the next tier of 3-4 franchises.... which I think we should try to rememeber from time to time...
