Islanders voted 9th greatest NHL franchise ever

The NY Islanders are currently #9 in this ranking Best NHL franchise ever on rankopedia. The top 3 are the Montreal Canadiens, the Detroit Red Wings and the Edmonton Oilers, in that order.

My thoughts exactly. In 81 years the Rags have (4) cups. In 35 years the Avs/Nords have (2) cups. In 33 years the Devils/Rockies have (3) cups. In 35 years the Isles have (4) cups.

Get out there and vote...lets change this nonsense!

Are some of you seriously upset by rankings that are made by open voting? Have any of you noticed that the rankings have Anaheim listed twice? Guys, get a grip...please.

Man, this really is an "American Idol" world we live in now, huh?

Respectively: Large fanbase, short memories and short memories.

It's voted on, don't take it too seriously.

Based on 192 votes
Yeah, it's all good, so far 192 unknown people know how to rank the Greatest Franchises. Question is, what are they "really" basing it on? Take a look at "Best Defenseman"...surprised to see Potvin 10th. But it's all good since "Sparkly" the Dragon is ranked 5th on the Best Mascots list.

Message boards, MySpace, news and other information, and now...a site where we can rank everything...I think the Internet is officially complete.

Hope you don't mind me invading your forum, but was going through the hockey hall of fame three days ago, and me and my friend were just talking about how little respect the early '80's Islanders get... they had this fantastic team, and a true dynasty, but for whatever reason they do not get their due... even their players like bossy are not talked about with enough reverence.

((Still, I'd rank them slightly lower than the Oilers ))

At least we are in the top 10. We def deserve to be higher in the rankings because there aren't too many teams that can say they were a Dynasty and win 4 Cups in a row. I say, don't take this too much to heart guys. We should be used to getting the shaft anyway on these really meaningless rankings.

I'm surprised Toronto is not Top 3.

But New Jersey? They can't even fill up the house for a playoff game!

Completely depends on the criteria... In some ways we're probably one of the hardest teams to rank.... One of the greatest teams that has ever laced 'em up for about an 8 year period... arguably the greatest US-based franchise (between us and Detroit)... as well as a 14 year period w/o seeing the 2nd round... goofy jerseys... goofy owners.... goofy GM's.... empty arena... etc..

That being said... I certainly consider Montreal, Detroit and Edmonton (tailed off a bit- but never quite to the depths that we've gone to) as being w/o question above us... beyond that.... UNLESS I'm brain cramping... we're easily in the next tier of 3-4 franchises.... which I think we should try to rememeber from time to time...

I agree. No body messes with Sparky, and lives. I can live with idiots voting us in the top ten, but I would not stand for Sparky not being in the top five.

Edit: B*******, they voted him to 10th. Those haters

This poll has about as much credibility as Alberto Gonzales.

They typo'd on Sparky and made him Sparkly! He's number 2 now.
