Kevin Quick??? Weird.

has a player ever been drafted to the nhl before they were drafted to the ohl???

well today in the ohl priority draft the sarnia sting did just that, taking him in the 8th round and then following that pick with his younger brother ('91).

first of all taking an '88 in the '91 priority draft is somewhat odd, and him being drafted to the nhl before he got drafted to the ohl is even more odd.

anyone have any thoughts on that?? at least he didnt go after his little bro, im sure there woulda been some chirps towards the nhl drafted brother by the younger one haha

Looks like the kid was planning on going to college in the US, but has decided not to, and his rights had not yet been obtained by an OHL club, so they took a waiver on him.

??? Kevin Quick has already signed his Letter of Intent to play at Michigan this fall and I haven't heard anything anywhere to suggest otherwise. Just the other week when Michigan announced the signing of another defenseman, Quick was included in their '07 recruits update at the end of the article.

ha that is kind of funny. Well it happens to all Europeans when they come over during the import draft, but the priority draft is the "real" amateur draft so yeah that is kind of amusing. Wonder if he's celebrating wildly at home.

The word is, is that his brother didn't want to play NCAA, and Kevin was inbetween on it, so if an OHL team was willing to take both of their rights on, he'd play. Problem is you draft one, another team drafts the other to keep compition from having a top prospect, like Kevin has the potential to be. No team wants to use up a pick in the first few rounds knowing another team may draft his brother and thus making it a pointless pick, after about 10 rounds it would be worth the risk as once the 10th round comes into play getting a real good player is very rare. Enter the Sarnia Sting, who managed to put together consecutive picks in the 8th round which they used to draft both players, so it is completely expected that Kevin Quick will be coming to Sarnia for the 2007-2008 season. Especially considering the fact that they're a finalist bid for hosting the memorial cup, and the fact that they're expected to be among the top 2 or 3 teams in the league, as they've been building for the 2007-2008 season since their division winning season in 2003-2004.

listened to the draft coverage in sarnia and allan millar was asked if he took any flyers with any of the stings draft selections this year and he said no.so unless something happens between now and training camp ,all 15 picks will report to sarnia including the quick bros.

its pretty simple. hes going to sarnia with his brother. there is no reason a team would select an 88 without thinking he would sign. follow that up with his brother being drafted right behind, and there you have, both will be there in the fall.

Getting an NHL 3rd round pick in the 8th round of the OHA draft would be a huge coup if he reports. However, I don't believe his brother could play for the Sting this year as they are allowed only one wild card pick after the first 2. They could both play for Sarnia next year though.

yeah i was wondering about that after i posted this thread... isnt it they can only send like 3 invites out to their top 3 rounders and have 1 wildcard invite from 4-15 rounds?

actually its changed:
your top 2 picks are automatic and then from there you are given two wildcard spots on the team for any player in any round. Goalies do not count towards the 4 players.

So looks like he may report...Would be great too for Sarnia there going to have a really good team next year.

And for the record I believe Tom Fritsche was drafted in the OHL after he was drafted in the NHL when his brother was playing for Sarnia to try to get him to report

tom was drafted into the ohl 2005 May 7th 8th round 158th overall by the kitchener rangers.
Selected by Colorado Avalanche round 2 #47 overall 2005 NHL Entry Draft June 25

First and foremost, there was current college hockey player drafted yesterday and that was Ohio State's Tom Fritsche. Fritsche was drafted by Kitchener with the 18th pick of the 8th round. Granted, most early round picks are guys that are guaranteed to play in the OHL while the late round picks are gambles on guys that may or may not want to play in the OHL. Still, it's hard to believe they randomly chose Fritsche's name out of a hat. His brother, Danny, went the OHL route before being signed by the Columbus Blue Jackets, and after an outstanding freshmen year at Ohio State, perhaps Tom views the OHL as the fastest route to the pros. The fact that Kitchener drafted him is also bad news for Buckeye fans because they have a reputation of being able to talk guys out of college committments. Fritsche led the Buckeyes in scoring last year as a freshmen and looked to be one of the cornerstone pieces to the Buckeyes CCHA title run next year. Whether or not he makes it back to Columbus next year will be a story to keep an eye on over the summer.

Not a huge deal, but you should probably quote that and cite it if you're going to cut and paste that much.
