messier...

hello,

at the start of the year, or even late summer, i posted that the rangers needed to rid themselves of messier in order to improve...

now that they are clearly out of the playoffs for the 7th consecutive season can we all agree that that has to happen...

please, don't get me wrong i admire and respect #11 (perhaps the greatest leader in team sports), but the way this organization is run (and there are no indications that that will change) they need to divest themselves of him...

why? because the players they've brought in since his return (far too numerous to count) defer to him in the room and they are not allowed to be who they are...

furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, he will never stand-up and call out glen sather for his inadequacies since he jumped on board with this team...

sather and mess go way back and it is probably unfair to ask him to call out his mentor...

i think we can all agree that sather isn't getting it done and he apparently has some pictures on little jimmy dolan (talk about clueless)...

again, i admire and respect mess, but in order for it to get better they have to do it... have a night for him next year and turn the page....

as long as leetch doesn't get it.

i think messier will still sit on the bench in a suit with a C sewn onto it. he can't let this team go, ha.

anyway, if eric doesn't come back, holik or jagr will probably get it. i dont think we'll have anyone with more of a "veteran" status next year.

I am probably in the minority but I would give it to Holik.

I'm a Leaf fan who fondly remembers the original six. I can't stand the thought of the Blackhawks and Rangers being outdone by the likes of Nashville, Tampa, etc. Please NYR, climb back out of mediocrity and join the old proud franchises like Boston, Toronto, Montreal and Detroit in the playoff hunt. It starts with the dismissal of Slats and cutting ties with Messier. Messier has outlived his usefulness here (1994) and although I admire his longevity and his great career, he's got to know its time to move on. Let him retire or spend next year in Edmonton, give him a wonderful send off night, but please send him packing.
