Hellstrom close to signing

According to Swedish newspaper, Aftonbladet, Alexnader Hellstrom is close to signing a contract with the Blues.
The article says that the Blues really want him to come over and that he's allready been to two camps with the team.

The whole article:

This is great, great news. I gues he was serious in that article a while back about coming over and playing in North America. If Hellstrom does indeed sign, Peoria's defense should be stacked next year after a few more signings.

According to Jarmo, he is a steady stay at home defensemen who excels on the penalty kill. During the WJC Jarmo had a blog on the Blue's website and he had nothing but positive things to say about Hellstrom. Also, his last name sounds like a metal band which is kind of cool.

From what i saw at the worlds he was outstanding. A true monster in front of the net and along the boards. Made good decisions. Im a fan, i think he will do good things in this league.

Alexander Hellstrom

Hellström has great size, reach and is strong along the boards and in the corners. He reads the game well and makes simple, but smart, decisions on the ice. He is a defenseman of stay-at-home type and always does his job well. Plays physical and has good timing in his hits.

Hopefully this is only the first of our european draftees to sign with us. Let's hope a forward or two signs as well. We already have a glut of defensemen, though you can never have too many good young d-men as a few teams have proven over the past 2seasons.

Any word on David Fredriksson or Soderberg's recovery?

I wouldn't trust anything you've read in Aftonbladet until it's been confirmed by a reliable source. Aftonbladet is anything but reliable.

Him and Gauthier should make a very tough paring to play against.

Since the contract offer reported in those articles, he has apparently gotten a new offer. Hellström likes the offer and has already a verbal agreement with St Louis. He is flying to the States today to for example do the medical examination and to sign the contract.

All according to Västerbottens Folkblad: http://www.folkbladet.nu/2007/05/07/...s-blues-nasta/

Well that's true. But in this case Hellström was interviewed in the local paper Folkbladet. So the source is Hellström himself.

Hellström has yet to decide where to play next season, but it will not be in Björklöven. He says that he is satisfied with the contract and is qouted saying, "who would pass up on a chance like this".

Great! Peoria needs help on defence. It never hurts to have a surplus of good young players at any position. They can always help allow a team to trade players at that position to fill other NHL roster needs.

That's swell, but how does Alexander Hellström feel about the whole thing...

Sh-t happens!

Mattias Hellström has signed with Alexander's former team Björklöven, hence the hickup.
