Bernier/Manchester question

Is it true that J. Bernier is too young to play in Manchester next season? Will he be back in the Q? Does he have any more work to do at that level?

Let's assume LA carries 3: Labs, Cloutier, & [some pickup].

Will Quick be #1 in Manchester? Is Brust expected back?

Bernier is underage to play in the AHL. He's about to turn nineteen and players have to be 20 to play in the A. He won't meet the age requirements for the 07/08 season.

If LA carries 3 goalies, odds are it will be Cloutier, LaBarbera and ???. Garon will be moving on. In Manchester, it will probably be Brust & Quick or Fukufuji

Euros can play in the AHL when they're younger than 20 (see Tukonen, Lauri). Players that are in the CHL when drafted have to be 20 OR have played 4-seasons in the CHL before they're eligible to play in the AHL, EXCEPT, players that are signed to NHL contracts can be assigned to the AHL after their Junior seasons end...

So if the Monarchs are still in the playoffs near the end of May, then Bernier can play for Manchester in the playoffs.

After that, it's either the NHL or QMJHL for Bernier again.

I do not get this. There is no way that players can play 4 full years in the CHL before they are 20. If they count the 5 games that 15 year olds can play in the WHL, then some WHLer's will be able to do it, otherwise the only one would could fall under the 4 year clause would be John Tavares. Seems pointless to be.

Anyways, back on topic, Brust really deserves his chance to start in the AHL. Despite his sturggles in the NHL this season, he still showed some very good flashes and has never gotten his chance to play regularly in the AHL. Hopefully Quick can be AHL ready next year, otherwise Fukufuji has some very good numbers in the AHL. But since both Brust's and Fukufuji's contract is up only 1 of them will be back. Danny Taylor simply needs to get released.

Out of curiosity - why are Euro's "exempt" from the 20 age status? Seems like it should be the same for all players.

I believe it is a deal between the CHL and the NHL to keep the star CHL players in the CHL instead of in the AHL. But I could be wrong.

No, you're exactly correct.....They want to keep those players who are talented in the CHL for as long as possible.
