To me that is cheap. If he didn't have a knee injury last year it would have been 4.5-6. I'd gladly take him for 3-3.5

how in the world is a guy that's maxed out at 25 goals, and has only hit 20 or more three times in his career...a career max of 53 points...worth NEAR that much money? That's a 2 million dollar player, 2.5 max...IF he's even healthy.

Hartnell - Handzus - Sykora

That would be a very nice line to have. The all free agent line......Zero chance of happening, but I think it would be very deadly.

Hartnell should make something along the lines of F. Modin's contract: 9.75 over 3 years.

Because he's going to be overpriced in this new salary cap environment. The cap is going up and thus the players who are UFAs this year will be overpaid. I KNOW he's really worth 2-2.5 a year, but the demand and the availablity of cash will inflate his value. Here's some other points which will inflate his value.

1) Size: 6-4, 206lbs don't grow on trees. The Preds most likely will have to overpay for size like they did for Arnott.

2) Faceoff percentage: two years ago his percentage was 53.2% That would put him in the top 20 in the NHL in that stat. Arnott was 50.6%, Legwand 45.3%. I'll take that.

Supposedly (heard it from someone else) Trotz mentioned on the radio yesterday about looking to upgrade size on the third and fourth lines.

Question for Preds fans, it seems like a center could be needed for your team if Peter Forsberg is not back. A name I have not seen mentioned is Michael Nylander. I was very impressed with him during the playoffs. What would your feelings be on Nylander?

I like Nylander, but I think we need to be looking at getting grittier, not slicker. We've already got some slick guys that will still be here(Radulov, Sullivan, Erat, to a lesser extent Legwand)

I'm hopeful, but I'll believe it when I see it.

New rumor: Jason Blake

Not exactly what I'd call our biggest need...another smallish forward.

Well, there were some 'confirmed' rumors that we were after him at the deadline, but the price was too high and NYI ended up holding on to him...so hopefully we're being associated with him simply because we were thought to be after him at the deadline. At least that's my theory...

No thanks to Jason Blake. He's had some decent seasons on Long Island, but he clearly had his best season in his contract year. I hope he isn't our answer for losing Paul Kariya...

We are talking about the Nashville Predators management. The B-2 Stealth Bomber of the the NHL. When I hear, "Jason Blake" I think, distraction for another player the Preds might pick up. We won't know until they have a guy signing on the dotted line in front of a camera.

That's not necessarily true..certain things were well broadcasted long before they happened...Peter Forsberg, Brendan Witt, the trade of Cliff Ronning...

Forsberg yes because it dragged on so damned long. Witt, not really, about 12 hours worth of buzz and then BAM, Ronning I can't really quote.

We almost acquired Witt going into the Olympic freeze, that particular year...and prior to the trading deadline where we did finally get him, it was the worst kept secret of the day. The fact that it didn't get done until a few minutes before the deadline was a shock, because it was one of the deals that was well-publicized nearly a week and a half before it even happened.

I honestly don't remember it being that long.

Does the uncertainty around the team's future possibly affect Forsberg's decision-making this summer? I suppose not if he wants to decide things on a yearly basis anyway.

It effects every FA.

Especially our own...why would Hartnell resign long term here if the team won't be here for that long.

Until we get this whole thing straightened out, you could probably take our name off of every list of potential FA's.

Exactly. One aspect that alot of free agents have claimed which helped them decide to stay or sign here was how nice the city is. The writing is on the wall, the team is going to move and no player is going to sign here knowing he's going to have to pack up and move somewhere unknown.
