The one player notably left off the untouchable youngsters list in Dupont's article is defenseman Milan Jurcina. I would love to get that guy. Jillson, Jurcina and a 1st would be solid return for Washington.

I don't think 7M yearly will happen, but you're right...it's certainly possible. I'd say 6M tops, and that's *IF* Gonchar makes to the arbitration table.

Another scenario is him liking where he gets traded to (especially Tor, as that's his preference), and settling on a deal that works for all-- 5 years/27.5M or something of that ilk.

And, he's NOT a playoff rental, IMO. I can't see any situation where he somehow becomes a UFA, new agreement or not. Toronto (or any team for that matter) will have a very valuable asset in Gonchar, so if acquiring team doesn't want to sign him, he's still eminently tradeable.......

I understand everyone's hesitations because of the looming CBA, but I also think it has a lot of posters "running scared".

I just don't see the NHL changing too dramatically. Nothing changes overnight!

Imagine him and Yonkman on the blueline in a few years.

I am a big Jurcina fan. He and Jillson coming back might even permit the Caps to focus on a forward in the draft, though I think I would still want them to take defenseman Cam Barker if he is available when they select.

The kid's had rotten luck, but Yonkman will be an effective NHL defenseman someday. He is likely to play all season next year in Washington, even if the season itself is a shortened 40 games.
