Prospects that have to be signed before June 1st

I understand that Euro prospects drafted in 2003 and all prospects drafted in 2005 have to be signed before deadline at June 1st.

After review these are the prospects that have to be signed by Predators:

2003 Euro prospects
Glazachev
Stehlik
Sulzer
Shafigulin
Lassila
Sidikov
Mukhachev
Hanuljak
Darzins

I think Stehlik, Sulzer and Shafigulin should be signed.

2005 prospects
Parent (traded)
Laakso
Franson (signed)
O´Reilly (signed)
Maki (signed)
Todd (no longer in organization)
Hornqvist

I think that Laakso and Hornqvist have to be definitely signed because they are two of best prospects Predators have.

What do you think?

I know that Laakso in particular is someone that Poile mentioned by name that they were trying to sign and even get over here for the fall.

The way I see the goaltending depth chart is that the Predators will keep Vokoun and Mason penciled in for Nashville for this season with Pekka Rinne and a backup (Goehring?) in Milwaukee. Next summer we will see Mason leave via free agency (unless he is traded this season to fill a need assuming that Rinne is NHL ready) and Rinne will be promoted to backup Vokoun. Mark Dekanich will have graduated from Colgate and will be sent to Milwaukee along with either Lassila coming over from Europe (young combo, but both are good prospects) or another AHL veteran goalie to split the time with.

Thoughts?

Mukhachev is a 2005 restricted free agent (signed 7/22/03) and doesn't fall in the same category as unsigned draft picks

and is likely never going to get anything resembling a look from us again, after he promised to be a training camp two years in a row, and then failed to show up without letting anyone know why.

Grigori Shafigulin has signed a contract with Ak Bars Kazan of Russian Superleague but is very likely to attend the summer camp of Nashville Predators

I'm not sure why the Rubinesque Feline (one less than a thousand) is asking why we wouldn't want Sulzer to sign with the Preds either???

He's 6 foot 213lbs, his stats are nothing to write home about, there's an overload of defensive prospects already in Nashville and Milwaukee and to be honest unless he wants to be Milwaukee #3 defensemen he doesn't fit into the mix. Hey I could be wrong. He could be the second coming of Darryl Sydor, but I'm more than willing to bet against that.

what glut of defenseman are you talking about?

i'd rather have sulzer and niskala over here(and it doesn't look koistinen will be in NA this year) than say...Nolan Yonkman. Plus, Kevin Klein will likely be in Nashville or traded. There's spots to be filled..

Klein, Franson, Weber, Suter, Hamhuis, Zanon is a UFA and I hope he comes back, Zidlicky is on the roster and may not be traded, Kevin Schaeffer will be graduating to Milwaukee, Niskala, Henry (Who could be dumped and I grant you that.).

In my mind the Preds roster needs more veteran leadership. Size would be nice but a vet to pair with Weber not youth. As for Milwaukee, yes I could see an infusion of talent would be good. Franson will be in Milwaukee developing, Schaeffer could make the Milwakuee roster. Brookbank is a UFA.

To borrow your nick. I want NO MORE KIDS!!!! for Nashville. But for Milwaukee, maybe, that I will concede.

Nice to see Sulzer trying his luck over the pond.

I can see him succeed in the NHL as a second third pairing Defensman with a solid all around game. Not sure he will crack the Preds lineup anytime soon given the depth they have at the blueline. So it will be AHL for him for the time being lets see how he does there.

I'm really having a hard time understanding why anyone would be upset that Sulzer would sign....The guy seems to be a steady defenseman and while his past two years have shown a different player.......I suspect he will do well over here. There is no point in pissing away the few good prospects that we have. Our strength is defensive prospects, but if we do not sign them, then we will never be able to use them as assets or groom them as future players.

I don't think so. He was the guy who was clobbered outside of a house party last year. Had his orbital bone crushed by a baseball bat or a hammer. Concensus from some college fans is that he may not cut it in the NHL.

He played in every game from his freshman year up until that point, so that says something. Some BU fans didn't care for all the icetime he got, some think he is a solid, stable blue-liner. I've seen him play all of one time - a few years ago against UND at the NCAAs. Since he played out his college elligability the Preds have until August to sign him, I believe.
