Leafs-Sharks Proposal

TO SJ: Matt Stajan + Ian White + Stefan Kronwall + pick (2nd-3rd?)

TO TOR: Vesa Toskala + Steve Bernier

Leafs add Toskala who would challenge Raycroft for #1 job. (although is UFA after next season) Bernier could be an effective power forward. They deal from a position of strength (young NHL defenders) to help out in the cease and on the wing.

San Jose adds a speedy centre with excellent PK abilities and two young defencemen to shore up the blueline. White is already a offensive contributor and good puck mover whereas Kronwall gives you size and decent 2-way play as a #4 defender.

No. That might not be enough for Toskala alone.

You're kidding, right? All Vesa Toskala, at the age of 30, has proven is that he can put up fairly decent numbers while playing LESS THAN HALF a seasons worth of games. That isn't a terrific package but Stajan + White could easily get Toskala. How much do you think a goalie who has played 38 and 37 games respectively over the last two seasons will command? And it's not even as if his numbers are out of this world. .904 save percentage and 2.45 GAA are good but nothing spectacular. He's signed for cheap next year but is an UFA by next offseason.

I wouldn't really want Toskala. It's funny most Leafs fans don't even want to give Raycroft a chance. It was one season he played way too much, give the guy a chance at least. (I say that because I assume you want him to replace razor)

On the other hand I do not think Bernier would be going anywhere. All those players for Bernier I would not do if I was SJS.

Overpayment by the Leafs... Stajan is a pretty good 2-way forward, his major flaws he don't have any hands, but his defensive game is top-notch. White was the best rookie for the Leafs this season, good potential for this d-men. Staffan Kronwall can develop into a really good defensive d-men. While Bernier's potential is good, but IMO the ceiling isn't very high on him.

That doesn't do anything for San Jose.

The Sharks offense disappeared against Detroit, they need scorers, not two-way players, they already have plenty of those.
They need scorers and veteran defensemen, in this proposal they get the opposite.

Ian White is anything but two way......he is a good PP QB....

Don't like this proposal from either side though.

Ian White is a defensemen, so he fits into the "not-veteran-defenseman" categorie, the comment on the two-way player was meant for Stajan.
