Buffalo will match almost anything but an offer that is going to lose us a lot of first round picks... which i'm not interested in losing. We're not going to get Vanek. However, we might be able to bump his salary up on his next contract a bit.

if that was the logic your better off screwing over a team in your division

if you really want him then go balls to the wall for him, dont nickle and dime. like you said they will probably match unless you really upped the offer. i have no problem giving a 1, 2, and 3. draft choices are hit and miss and vanek looks like he will be good for a long timef they gave him an offer of 4mm, what is the compensation

you offer him as much as you're willing to give up in draft choices... that's the way it's supposed to work.

i'd be against going into the multiple 1st round picks territory... but, i'd be willing to give one up.

i here what your saying, the flyers can always acquire a 1st if need be as well. the 2 first may not = vanek or they could be greater a chance worth taking imo. need to see what they do with the other 2 fa, they walk no way they let vanek walk, 1 walks still they will probably resign. what about going after pominville?

Jester, my Lordy, you are on a roll today.

Question, is Preissing RFA or UFA--I like him a whole heck of a lot, and from what I've seen over on the Sens board, they're not sure he'll be able to be re-signed there.

he's an UFA as far as I know, but I haven't looked too hard into it.

Thanks for the info. Truth be told, I'm too lazy to look it up myself.

He most definitely IS a UFA, not RFA. He made 600k this past season with a cap hit of 550k. Reports are that he's seeking double what he made this past season and that he WANTS to stay in Ott and not test the market. The Sens should have no trouble working him into their cap space and they appear to want him back.

The only problem is what if Carter and Richards have their breakout seasons after we bump the scale up for Vanek? That could come back and bite us on the a$$ so to speak. And I'm on the record as saying Carter and Richards will have their breakthrough seasons this year. If you take a look at most of the prospects from the 2003 draft, they all had their breakout seasons after playing professionally for three years. That's what I'm basing the Carter/Richards breakthrough seasons on.

Remember folks, If Vanek is offered $3.99million it is a 1st,2nd, and 3rd in the following draft. 4 to 5 million would be 2 1sts , a 2nd, and a 3rd. 5 million or more it is 4 1st rounders. Future years should not concern the astute , because there are always expiring contracts.

It only comes back to bite you if you don't sign them before July 1st. Holmgren clearly has his priorities straight getting our RFAs signed early this year, and he will do the same next year.

What would buffalo's breaking point be? Would they match at 4mill? I can't imagine having another 40+goal scorer LW, plus he's only going into his third year and he's...A RIGHT HAND SHOT!

i'm not giving up 4 1st rounders for Vanek... and, yes, i think you'd have to get into that neighborhood to get him.

For a second I thought you meant moot should really be pronounced like foot.
