John Madden: Strongman

John Madden: 5'11" 190

Andy Delmore: 6'1" 200

It was embarrassing watching Madden outwork Delmore in the boards. Madden won the battle along the boards, like Pyatt did for us on our first goal, to set up that goal. And it was a killer.

If we had a Jason Smith or Keith Carney, this would not have happened.

Why Campbell and Delmore are a pairing is beyond me.

Because neither is a 3rd or 4th defensemen. Arguably Fitzpatrick and Tallinder aren't, either, but they are more so than Campbell or Delmore.

What if we had Carney or Smith? We still wouldn't be making the playoffs.First, trade a goalie for once instead of this 2 man tandem. All legit cup contenders have one starter that is head and shoulders above his backup.Darcy can't wait at the deadline because we will be too far away. We're already fading fast.I wouldn't be surprised to see Florida pass us.Hopefully they do,I would want a better draft pick.

exactly...fitz (whos looked awful tonight) and tallinder arent either. so wouldnt it make more sense to have two bad pairings that are balanced (campbell/Tallinder and Fitz/Delmore) than having one pairing (Soupy/Delmore) that is just an awful defensive liability when they are on the ice.

I can feel comfortable with Tallinder and Fitzpatrick out there. Splitting up the Sisters of No Defense adds more instability I think.

Sorry to dissuade you from your optimism, but Carney or Smith would prevent goals like that.

And even with Carney or Smith, given our schedule, there is still a good chance we make the playoffs.

I hope you enjoyed Pyatt's work along the boards which helped set up our first goal tonight.

sorry i dont. Fitzpatrick is a career AHLer...Tallinder is still growing. are they better than Soupy/elmore? absolutely. but I dont think a pairng of Tallinder and one of the sisters is much worse than tallinder and fitz. but i think we allknow the onyl solution is for a move or 3 to be made to help what looks like the worst defense in the league right now....

You are Mike Robitaille!
<(-:**
He was saying the same thing on Hockey Hotline the last time Gionta scored against the Sabres (my folks get Empire on DirecTV and I never miss HH when I get a chance). Gio's got a lot of heart and a huge work ethic (not to mention a low center of gravity)...doesn't hurt that he was playing against the team he rooted for all his life.

In a dream world, the Sabres would pick Madden up as a FA next summer while most other teams sit back and wait.
